V 9 The heart is deceitful Desperately wicked KJV
V 5 -8 Cursed and Blessed
God gives the 2 different Trusts/faith
Trusting in self
trusting in God
and the opposing outcomes of the person
Jeremiah asks the question in V 9
because the heart is sick, and the outside looks so good
The heart is a liar but sounds reasonable
how can we know?
the deacon at church may be a shrub in the wilderness
And the poor widow begging on the street corner is a tree planted by the living water
Who can look at a person and make the determination?
Jeremiah wants to know
Read Jeremiah 17 9-11.

The Heart

What is the heart
we want to say feelings
heart; one’s inner self; inclination, disposition; determination, courage; will, intention; attention, consideration, reason
Genesis 6:5 LEB
And Yahweh saw that the evil of humankind was great upon the earth, and every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was always only evil.
Romans 8:7 LEB
because the mindset of the flesh is enmity toward God, for it is not subjected to the law of God, for it is not able to do so,
Psalm 51:5 LEB
Behold, in iniquity I was born, and in sin my mother conceived me.
Proverbs 28:26 LEB
He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be saved.
Ecclesiastes 9:3 LEB
This is the injustice that is done under the sun: the same fate comes to everyone. Also the hearts of humans are full of evil; delusion is in their hearts during their lives, and then they die.
The unbeliever’s heart is not able to know the things of God/ Total depravity
1 Corinthians 2:14 LEB
But the natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Matthew 12:34 LEB
Offspring of vipers! How are you able to say good things when you are evil? For from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
the inner man. who he is, what he thinks, what he believes,
is the Heart/ mind
Jeremiah says the heart is deceitful, and sick
Who knows how to discern the difference?

The Christian Heart

we saw the unbelievers heart
will not accept the things of God
does not understand them
he is an enemy of God
does not seek God, incapable of seeking God
the mind, heart is deceitful and wicked
Read Romans 3 10-17.
But what about the believers heart
Let me ask you 2 questions
1 is what you really think comes out of your mouth?
2 do you lie to yourself and others to make excuses for your actions?
James is talking to the Christian when he says..
James 1:14–15 LEB
But each one is tempted when he is dragged away and enticed by his own desires. Then desire, after it has conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is brought to completion, gives birth to death.
Paul is exhorting the Christian to no longer be like the unbeliever
why? because it is in us to
Ephesians 4:17–19 LEB
This therefore I say and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the Gentiles walk: in the futility of their mind, being darkened in understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart, who, becoming callous, gave themselves over to licentiousness, for the pursuit of all uncleanness in greediness.
are we capable? yes we are.
We have the Holy Spirit within us
but we can grieve the Spirit
our hearts are deceitful, our feelings are controlled by our emotions
we jump to conclusions, if others were ever able to see out thoughts...
why do you do what you do? is there a hidden agenda?
All hearts are to some degree deceitful
So how can that change?
Only God can change us, through grace,
He changes us into the image of His Son Jesus

Ministry And The Heart

All unregenerate are totally depraved
their master is satan
they are in bondage to sin and cant get free
and the only way they can be saved is if God regenerates them
thus we need to understand that and pray for them
and understand that and realize who they are and forgive for persecution
and understand that we were the same way until God saved us
and ministry to the sheep
Sheep bite given the notion
why do they get the notion? because they want to
their depraved heart sometimes come to the surface
the deceitful hart wants to lash out
so what do we do?
we need to understand where it’s coming from
and love them, and care for them
and also understand that we ourselves have bitten the hand that saved us
Our Lord Jesus
the one who came as a human to this planet to live a perfect life
to be a sacrifice to be able to buy us from the slavery to sin
our Lord who bought us with his life blood
to be able to forgive all of our sins
so we could be wedded to Him for eternity, His grace that will be lavished on to us
so in light of that what do we do?
we forgive and love
and we allow the Almighty to judge

God The Judge

V 10
God is the one who judges the mind / heart
he knows the the real intention behind the action
He knows when the good action has a bad intention
He also knows when the not so good action has a really good intention
God knows the heart, the will, the mind
He is the perfect Judge
and Justice will be served
V 11
the unjust will pay for their crimes
The crimes of the unjust will be paid
either by yourself
or by Jesus on the cross
For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6 23
The heart is desperately wicked
Jesus is the only solution to this problem
wont you put your faith in Him?
Don’t let your deceitful heart rob you of a changed life
an abundant life in Christ
a everlasting life with Him in Heaven
this might be your last chance today
Christian don’t let your heart rob you of your joy
Put your life into the hands of the Father and allow Him to change you
to make you into the image of His son
don’t try this on your own you know you are a failure
you know your heart will give you every reason to excuse your actions
humbly fall on your knees at the cross of Christ and confess your sick mind
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1John 1 9
God is good and He does not want us living as in the old life
and we don’t either
