Rebound
we're in the midst of awesome days!
2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
Between Rosh HaShannah and Yom Kippur are ten days. These days are known as "Yamim Noraim", "the Days of Awe" -- or also translated, the "Awesome days". In Judaism it has been long believed that these days seal your fate for the upcoming year -- and also allude to your final destiny, concerning whether your name continues to be written in the Book of Life. Throughout the ages, Jewish people spend the Days of Awe in great reverence -- aware of the holiness and judgment of YHVH; so repentance, reconciliation, forgiveness and a general heightening of moral conduct are emphasized. After the holiday, for many, it's back to life as usual.
But we ought to realize...there are nine verses in the Bible, Old, and New Testament, which clearly state that we will be judged and rewarded for our works. (The final one is Revelation 22:12). Salvation is by grace through faith, and all who believe have their names written in the Book of Life.[Eph 2:5], but our rewards will be determined solely by what we have done. One day, when this life is over, we will all stand before the judgment seat of Messiah (Christ). Once we breathe our last breath we will never again be able to prepare for eternity! These are our days of awe; not just once a year, but every single day of our life. Our everyday deeds on earth will determine our destinies in eternity.
Robert, each of our days -- these Awesome days --should be held in awe and used to the fullest. Use them wisely! Get right with God, every morning; tie up the loose ends, forgive others their offenses, be filled with His Spirit, and walk in love. You won't need to fear the Days of Awe, but instead look forward to a rich reward in God's Eternity-- yes, in fact, we are... truly we're living in the Days of Awe!

For the unbeliever the issue is not about sin. It is about what yea think of Christ. That Jesus Christ died on the behalf of the sinner, and by trusting in Him our sins are blotted out and we are now Children of God in Christ.
But it is not long after we have received Christ that we find that we bring quite a bit of baggage into our new life.
It seems to me that this discourages some. They have been led to believe that they are as pure as the wind driven snow. And they end up in some cases worst than they were before.
No, it is not that they had head belief and not a heart belief. The fact is that we all bring in extra baggage. Our first phase of Salvation removes the penalty of sin and makes us new creatures in Christ. but it what it does not do is remove all the bad programming from the previous life.
We are the same scoundrel that we have been up to the point of our conversion we just saved scoundrels.
God is not done saving us now there is the sanctification process. That is taking the babe in Christ to maturity in the faith.
That will be the work of God the Holy Spirit with our cooperation.
In the carnal state which we covered last evening where we are quenching the Holy Spirit (1 Thess 5) and quenching the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30) we are not in growing mode. There is no cooperation with the Holy Spirit. There is not mentorship to our human Spirit.
So we have sinned.
Romans 3:23 (NASB95) — 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Have is a Aorist active which means we continue to sin and fall short.
When was the last time you confessed any sin to the Lord? that is sin of the overt sins, mental attitude sins or sins of the tongue.
No, none of us are a pure as the wind driven snow.
And maybe we have spent a quite a bit of time in carnality and we have been under the discipline of the Father and we are at our breaking point, where do we go, what do we do?
There is a recovery. There is hope of restoration. And that is through God’s provision.
1 John 1:9 (NASB95) — 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If ἐάνMaybe, we will and maybe we won’t,
The if depends upon at least two conditions
1. Our willingness to humble ourselves repent and name our sins
2. God’s willingness to permit it.
Pharoah of Egypt had one chance to repent and then it was the Lord who hardened Pharoah’s heart.
Romans 1 God hands the wicked over to a depraved heart. That tells me the door to repentance is closed shut.
And in Hebrews we read
Hebrews 6:3 (NASB95) — 3 And this we will do, if God permits.
Maybe we are willing to confess and maybe the Lord will not be willing to hear the request.
It is God prerogative if he grants the petition to hear Him. It is fully the grace that God extends to the carnal to hear the case. If we are asking the Lord to forgive us our debts, there must be the grace and mercy of God extended that he would hear our plea and accept it.
We Confess ὁμολογέω confess or admit, acknowledging to God who sits upon his throne. This is identifying sin for what it is in agreement to the view of God of the sin.
Up to this point we may have been seeking to ignore our sins, justify our sins, cover our sins with good works, lie and deceive ourselves into thinking that we are ok, but indeed we are not.
Looking back when I was a kid, I realize now that my parents did not always correct me immediately. They allowed me to dig a hole and while I was digging the hole the guilt was falling in on me. When I confessed to them my guilt and received just punishment is relieved me of all that guilt.
The Lord will let us dig our hole, but then when I tire of the guilt and can’t handle it no longer I come to the Lord.
ἁμαρτία Our sins to act contrary to the will and law of God—‘to sin, to engage in wrongdoing, sin. It is an archery term that means missing the mark. The target is God’s righteousness and everything that falls short of God’s righteousness is sin.
HE is Eimi (present active indicative ) God the Father is being Faithful.
πιστόςc, ή, όν: pertaining to
being sure, with the implication of being fully trustworthy—‘sure.’
And
δίκαιοςa, α, ον: pertaining to being in accordance with what God requires—‘righteous, just.
God is not arbitrary to forgive. The Father forgives on the basis of what his son accomplished upon the Cross for you and for me.
With confession then God responses to forgive
ἀφίημιf; ἄφεσιςa, εως f; ἀπολύωe: to remove the guilt resulting from wrongdoing—‘to pardon, to forgive, forgiveness.
This is clearing the books. The Lord will never remember our sins.
Micah 7:19 (NASB95) — 19 He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot. Yes, You will cast all their sins Into the depths of the sea.
Isaiah 43:25 (NASB95) — 25 “I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, And I will not remember your sins.
Psalm 103:12 (NASB95) — 12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
And to cleanse καθαρίζω to cleanse from ritual contamination or impurity—‘to cleanse, to purify, purification.’
Sin leaves one ceremoniously unclean. That means that if we are to approach God, we must approach God on his terms and not our own. If I am to approach God, I have to be purified that the king may look upon me in favor and not discuss because of the sin that I carry.
Righteousness and unrighteousness are mutually exclusive. I cannot be almost right, but I have to come into the presence of the King having been purified of all sin.
Going Back to “If” we confess.
That if is not based on just the fact that we have the willingness to repent but it is also on the basis of whether God will grant the petition.
Hebrews 6:1–3 (NASB95) — 1 Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of instruction about washings and laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do, if God permits.
Forgive us of our debt, knowing that I have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and that sin is an insult to the very character of God In repentance I confess seeking to have my debt that is on God’s books wiped out and restoration to a relationship with the Lord.
The prayer is forgiven us our debt. Do not hand us over to the evil one to torment us for the rest of days upon this earth.
When we receive the forgiveness by faith and know that our debt has been wiped away, we can then go on in response to God’s grace to live the life abiding in his son producing much fruit.
You see confession and forgiveness or rebound have you is not just a get out hell free card. Or just gets you our of trouble and back in God’s good graces.
Forgiveness is by the grace of God and grace demands and response. It frees the restored believer that that child of God may then worship and serve the king with a willing and thankful heart.
