Romans 1:3-7

1.   V.3:    

      a.   Jesus is the center of the Gospel, it all revolves around Him.

      b.   He is born of the seed of David

            i.   This is a fulfillment of the DAVIDIC COVENANT.

            ii.  2 Samuel 7:16 (KJV) 16And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

            iii. The kingdom will last forever, but it has not yet arrived.

                  (1) When Christ speaks of the Kingdom, He speaks of a future knigdom.

                  (2) The Kingdom is not the church.

      c.   Jesus gave up much to be born in the flesh.

                  i.   Philippians 2:5 - 8 (KJV) 5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

                  ii.  He gave it all up for your sake, and when you live in sin your trampling all over His blood. He deserves better.

2.   V.4:

      a.   “Declared to be. . .”; He was not made to be the son of God, He is declared to be.

            i.   Jesus is eternal, He is God

            ii.  John 1:1 - 3 (KJV) 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

            iii. Only His human body was made. (Hebrews 10:5)

            iv. The word “prepared” (in the Greek) is the same word used for “framed” in Hebrews 11:3. God created the body of Jesus w/ the same power and wisdom with which He created the universe.

            v.   This can only mean that the body of Jesus, like that of Adam was a special creation. (1 Corinthians 15:45/ first and last Adams).

      b.   Because He is God, He has all the power and authority of God.              

      c.   The resurrection proves He is God, and is central to the gospel.

            i.   1 Corinthians 15:12 - 14 (KJV) 12Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

            ii.  No resurrection = No hope : 1 Corinthians 15:19 (KJV) 19If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

3.   V.5:

      a.   Apostleship = commission; sent out

      b.   Paul always connected both grace and faith not only to salvation, but also to obedience.

      c.   Grace gives us the desire and the power to obey God, not the right and safety to disobey.

      d.   Obedience to the faith is simply the fulfillment of the great commission, preaching the Gospel of Christ.

      e.   “Among all nations”, no one person, or group of people are excluded; Christ died for all.

4.   V.6:

      a.   All Christians are called.

5.   V.7:

      a.   Grace must always precede peace.

 *Right Doctrine prepares us for Christian service in many ways:

1.   It promotes right thinking, which leads to right living.

2.   It gives us spiritual discernment, that we may more easily recognize false teachers.

3.   It impresses on upon us how great God is, and how small we are.

4.   It impresses on us the need for faithful service.

•    Knowledge means nothing unless you use it.

•    Faith without works is dead.

•    The faithful man takes action, he knows that God has prepared the way, and that God will equip him for the task. Faith works!

•    The faithful man doesn’t just pray, he prays and then gets to work.
