Intro

Visits and Plots

Paul begins heading back toward Jerusalem- up to them down to us
he is having to take different paths because the Jews were seeking to do away with him all along the way
Luke appears to be with Paul again
all of these will follow him and they and many more will try to stop him from his quest to go to Jerusalem

longest sermon ever

Paul is with the congregation in Troas- Turkey, near Troy where the Trojan war took place
its Sunday and Paul intends to leave on Monday
he preaches from the time that they get together for a meal- lunch ish- until midnight
in Eutychus’ defense everything was working against him
Paul doesn’t even really seem angry about it
after one last miracle, Paul sets sail once more

last words to the elders

trying to make good time he doesn’t go visit one of the congregations he is closest to
he instead calls the leaders to him to give them one last charge
recounts their time together
he knows what he must do and what is going to happen to him there but he must go anyway
what is important to Paul is not his life but the life that is in Christ being furthered
people will rise up among even the Ephesians
root out evil and continue to do good
help the weak and further the kingdom- a pretty straightforward but heavy call
give yourself like Paul has

Application

what have you given yourself to?
have you given or have you only recieved?
what is more important to you? Is it your life here on earth or the gospel that gives life beyond this one?
