INTRO—

When I was little, I was instructed by my parents about many things… how to act (behave) in church.
SOOOO, Pastor…! (Not so fast…) &…
SOOOO, Church…!
1 Timothy 3.15 “But if I should be delayed, I have written so that you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.”

PASTOR (Acts 20.28) - Austin Reser

Acts 20.28 “Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as overseers, to shepherd the church of God, which he purchased with his own blood.”
You must Live with Integrity. (The Most Important Thing)
“Being above reproach”…is not sinless perfection, but is a constant (non-exchangeable) standard for you as you lead God’s people.
You must Labor with Diligence. (Laziness will Kill Us)
“Studying to rightly teach God’s word and not be ashamed”… takes WORK, since preaching is proclamation through your words…and proclamation through your life.
You must Lead with Vision. (One Generation at a Time)
Avoiding “without revelation, people run wild”…involves appropriate application of biblical truth to life TODAY.
You must Love with Sincerity. (The Order of the Towel)
“Genuinely caring about others (in the family)”…requires being close to and elevating the SIGNIFICANCE of the lives of your brothers and sisters in Christ around you here.
You must Laugh with Freedom. (Join the Human Race; Be Real)
“Being hospitable (& loving what is good)”… means laughing, suffering the pains of being a Dallas Cowboys fan, ENJOYING life—here and now—while looking forward to life eternal.

CHURCH (Matthew 10.40-42) - Immanuel Baptist Church of Newton, Kansas

Matthew 10.40-42 ““The one who welcomes you welcomes me, and the one who welcomes me welcomes him who sent me. Anyone who welcomes a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward. And anyone who welcomes a righteous person because he’s righteous will receive a righteous person’s reward. And whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.””
You must Pay Him Adequately. (Help Him)
“Welcoming your pastor”…involves taking care of him and his family. Provide baby sitting when needed; pay him sufficiently; show him your friendship/life.
You must Respect Him Duly. (Honor Him)
“Accepting your pastor”… means respecting (not demeaning nor down-playing) his work (career)…his call.
You must Encourage Him Continually. (Hug Him)
“Receiving your pastor”…requires showing him you care for him and his family. A hug is one good way!
You must Pray for Him Faithfully. (Hold Him Up)
“Befriending your pastor”…includes lifting him up to and entrusting him to the Lord who called you and him into this wonderful relationship.
You must Respond to Him Enthusiastically. (Hear Him Out)
“Welcoming (Accepting) your pastor”…means being predisposed to listening to him and being ready to join in (side-by-side) the task (opportunity, challenge, need) at hand.

CONCL—

Ephesians 4.11-16 “11 And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ, 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son, growing into maturity with a stature measured by Christ’s fullness. 14 Then we will no longer be little children, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching, by human cunning with cleverness in the techniques of deceit. 15 But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into him who is the head—Christ. 16 From him the whole body, fitted and knit together by every supporting ligament, promotes the growth of the body for building itself up in love by the proper working of each individual part.”
TOGETHER—to equip the SAINTS…until WE ALL reach unity in the faith—and only together…will you all reach the goal to which Jesus has called you—for the sake of His Kingdom and the glory of His Name.
