Ephesians 4:17–24

Paul is writing as a “prisoner”, quite literally a prisoner of war.
He was fighting against the kingdom of God and now is living in the power of the King of the kingdom.
Paul states that he, having been a person who had passionately fought while his understanding was darkened.
