Genesis 1:14–18 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
There are some interesting observations that we can make from the first chapter of Genesis chapter1. Firstly, we observe that light was created on DAY 1 whilst the light bearers appear on DAY 4. Light is not dependent on the sun and moon. God has simply assigned them to rule over the day and night. These lights are set in, or Inside the firmament. Days 1, 2 and 3 all functioned normally, ie evening and morning without the sun, moon or stars! The Sun, Moon and Stars were created on day 4 to 1. divide the day from night, 2. give light on the earth, 3. rule over day and night. 4. be for, signs, seasons, days and years. We recognize most of these points in our day to day lives. The sun marks each days beginning and end. The sun and moon clearly do all that God has commanded them to. Wisdom of Solomon 7:17–19 For he hath given me certain knowledge of the things that are, namely, to know how the world was made, and the operation of the elements: the beginning, ending, and midst of the times: the alterations of the turning of the sun, and the change of seasons: the circuits of years, and the positions of stars:
However, we don’t pay enough attention to the signs and seasons aspect of God’s light bearers. I believe the signs could refer to things like eclipses, (one happened at Christ’s death Matthew 27:45), or the star that lead the wise men to Bethlehem to see Jesus the Messiah. (Matthew 2:1-2, 7, 9-10). Or the sign John saw in Revelation12:1-5, relating to Satan, Israel and the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Revelation 12:3–4 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born.
Genesis 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. This verse gives us a summary of the creation week. Throughout the Bible the host of heaven describes luminaries in the heavenly realm. Commentators say that they describe both stars and angels. There are many passages in the scriptures that must be interpreted as to say that the stars are angels. If you look at the following verse from Job describing the accounts of creation it’s hard to look at it any other way. Job 38:4–7 “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?
In The Beginning God Created ……
The Heavens with a Firmament, Sun, Moon and Stars, and Windows.
The Earth with Foundations, Pillars, a Cornerstone, ends and corners.
The Seas with its Depths and its limits set by bars and doors.
The World beneath the Earth, Sheol, the Abyss, Tartarus, Hades.
The Invisible and Visible, Angels, Mankind, Animals, Fish and Birds.
What if all the stars are angels working / shinning inside God’s heaven, the firmament? Psalm 147:4 He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name. God named all the stars and knows their number! The Lord is called the Lord of Hosts throughout the Bible. 244 times. God has sovereign control over the hosts of heaven. Job 38:31–33 “Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, Or loose the belt of Orion? Can you bring out Mazzaroth in its season? Or can you guide the Great Bear with its cubs? Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you set their dominion over the earth? Nehemiah 9:6 You alone are the Lord; You have made heaven, The heaven of heavens, with all their host, The earth and everything on it, The seas and all that is in them, And You preserve them all. The host of heaven worships You.
Psalm 33:6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Psalm33:6 seems to say that the heavenly host came from the breath of God’s mouth even as Adam did. Therefore they worship God. Psalm 8:3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, Psalm 148:3 Praise Him, sun and moon; Praise Him, all you stars of light. Could large balls of gas praise God? Angels can and do this! Isaiah 40:26 Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing. Isaiah 45:12 I have made the earth, And created man on it. I—My hands—stretched out the heavens, And all their host I have commanded.
Revelation 1:12–16, 20 Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches.
Hebrews 1:6 But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says: “Let all the angels of God worship Him.” The angels, stars are His direct creation and were created with specific responsibilities. Some proclaim His holiness, some are warriors, others provide light on the earth. Other angels have power of the weather, the elements of the earth. Revelation 7:1 After these things I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree. Revelation 8:12 Then the fourth angel sounded: And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened. A third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night. See Revelation 16:8 also.
The angels were to worship and serve God in the heavenly realm, shining light upon the earth, serving as messengers and ministers to God’s people. Angels escort believers to heaven after they die; ie Lazarus in Luke 16:22. An angel, Gabriel brought word to Zechariah concerning the birth of John the Baptist who would announce the Messiah’s coming. Gabriel also brought news to Mary concerning the Child she would give birth to Jesus. An angel and a host from heaven announced Christ’s birth to the shepherds. I have included some apochryphal books.
Luke 2:8–14 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
Sirach 43:1–10: 1 The pride of the height, the clear firmament, The beauty of heaven, with his glorious shew; 2 The sun when it appeareth, declaring at his rising A marvellous instrument, the work of the most High: 3 At noon it parcheth the country, And who can abide the burning heat thereof? 4 A man blowing a furnace is in works of heat, But the sun burneth the mountains three times more; Breathing out fiery vapours, And sending forth bright beams, it dimmeth the eyes. 5 Great is the Lord that made it; And at his commandment it runneth hastily. 6 He made the moon also to serve in her season For a declaration of times, and a sign of the world. 7 From the moon is the sign of feasts, a light that decreaseth in her perfection. 8 The month is called after her name, increasing wonderfully in her changing, Being an instrument of the armies above, shining in the firmament of heaven; 9 The beauty of heaven, the glory of the stars, An ornament giving light in the highest places of the Lord. 10 At the commandment of the Holy One they will stand in their order, And never faint in their watches.
I believe that God has given angels other responsibilities in the heavens. It seems they have power of the weather, the wind and the rain, perhaps snow and ice. See Revelation 7:1; 16:8. Angels helped Israel to defeat Sisera’s Canaanite army. Judges 5:19–20 “The kings came and fought, Then the kings of Canaan fought In Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo; They took no spoils of silver. They fought from the heavens; The stars from their courses fought against Sisera. (the angels caused huge thunderstorms that bogged down the chariots of Sisera). Angels can exercise power over the weather and cause great disturbances on earth.
In the verses just reviewed God’s angels fought for Israel. In the Great Tribulation we saw this too. Satan exercised great authority over the weather when he brought calamities against Job. See Job 1:12–19 And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house; and a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, when the Sabeans raided them and took them away—indeed they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!” While he was still speaking, another also came and said, The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell you!” While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!” While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, and suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
Psalm 104:4 Who makes His angels spirits, His ministers a flame of fire. Stars, angels, spirits and powers are all used interchangeably in the next verses from the Book of Enoch. Enoch 60:11-22 11 And the other angel who went with me and showed me what was hidden told me what is first and last in the heaven in the height, and beneath the earth in the depth, and at the ends of the heaven, and on the foundation of the heaven. 12 And the chambers of the winds, and how the winds are divided, and how they are weighed, and (how) the portals of the winds are reckoned, each according to the power of the wind, and the power of the lights of the moon, and according to the power that is fitting: and the divisions of the stars according to their names, and how all the divisions are divided. 13 And the thunders according to the places where they fall, and all the divisions that are made among the lightnings that it may lighten, and their host that they may at once obey.
14 For the thunder has †places of rest(which) are assigned (to it) while it is waiting for its peal; and the thunder and lightning are inseparable, and although not one and undivided, they both go together through the spirit and separate not. 15 For when the lightning lightens, the thunder utters its voice, and the spirit enforces a pause during the peal, and divides equally between them; for the treasury of their peals is like the sand, and each one of them as it peals is held in with a bridle, and turned back by the power of the spirit, and pushed forward according to the many quarters of the earth. 16 And the spirit of the sea is masculine and strong, and according to the might of his strength he draws it back with a rein, and in like manner it is driven forward and disperses amid all the mountains of the earth.
17 And the spirit of the hoar-frost is his own angel, and the spirit of the hail is a good angel. 18 And the spirit of the snow has forsaken his chambers on account of his strength—There is a special spirit therein, and that which ascends from it is like smoke, and its name is frost.
19 And the spirit of the mist is not united with them in their chambers, but it has a special chamber; for its course is †glorious† both in light and in darkness, and in winter and in summer, and in its chamber is an angel. 20 And the spirit of the dew has its dwelling at the ends of the heaven, and is connected with the chambers of the rain, and its course is in winter and summer: and its clouds and the clouds of the mist are connected, and the one gives to the other. 21 And when the spirit of the rain goes forth from its chamber, the angels come and open the chamber and lead it out, and when it is diffused over the whole earth it unites with the water on the earth. And whensoever it unites with the water on the earth … For the waters are for those who dwell on the earth; 22 for they are nourishment for the earth from the Most High who is in heaven: therefore there is a measure for the rain, and the angels take it in charge.
The angels were not to interfere with mankind, take wives or teach mankind the mysteries of the heavens. They were to serve God, not to lead mankind away from Him into idolatry. Tragically many of them did all these things. Lucifer started it all by wanting to take God’s place. Lucifer led a rebellion against God and drew 1/3rd of the stars / angels to join him. Look at Isaiah 14:12–14 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ The word Lucifer הֵילֵל means shinning one or crescent moon. See also Ezekiel 28:11-19
The following verses in Job declare that heavenly realms have been defiled by the angels. Job 15:15 If God puts no trust in His saints, And the heavens are not pure in His sight, Job 4:18 If He puts no trust in His servants, If He charges His angels with error, Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. Ephesians 1:21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
Angels serve God in many ways. They are described as heavenly watchers. Daniel 4:13. Perhaps some of them record the works of men in books to be used at the judgment. Rev 20:11-15 This term watchers is used often in the Book of Enoch.
The account is given of 200 watcher angels coming down on Mount Hermon and taking wives. This rebellion took place in the days of Jarred and is also described in Genesis 6:1-5.
Genesis 6:1–5 Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Enoch 6 1 And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied that in those days were born unto them beautiful and comely daughters. 2 And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: ‘Come, let us choose us wives from among the children of men and beget us children.3 And Semjâzâ, who was their leader, said unto them: ‘I fear ye will not indeed agree to do this deed, and I alone shall have to pay the penalty of a great sin.’ 4 And they all answered him and said: ‘Let us all swear an oath, and all bind ourselves by mutual imprecations not to abandon this plan but to do this thing.’ 5 Then sware they all together and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it. 6 And they were in all two hundred; who descended ‹in the days› of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon, and they called it Mount Hermon, because they had sworn and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it.
Enoch 7 1 And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them, and they taught them charms and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. 2 And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells: 3 Who consumed all the acquisitions of men. 4 And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against them and devoured mankind. 5 And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another’s flesh, and drink the blood. 6 Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones.
Enoch 10 15 And destroy all the spirits of the reprobate and the children of the Watchers, because they have wronged mankind.
The angels that fell and their offspring led mankind to worship Satan and themselves. The scriptures are full of references to Israel and the nations worshipping the sun, moon and the host of heaven angels. Deuteronomy 4:19 And take heed, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the Lord your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage. God’s prophets spoke against it continually. The worship of pagan deities often involved such practices. 2 Kings 17:16 So they left all the commandments of the Lord their God, made for themselves a molded image and two calves, made a wooden image and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. Acts 7:42 Then God turned and gave them up to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the Prophets: ‘Did you offer Me slaughtered animals and sacrifices during forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
Jude 6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; 2 Peter 2:4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; 1 Peter 3:19–20 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.
Wisdom of Solomon 13:1–9 1 Surely vain are all men by nature, who are ignorant of God, and could not out of the good things that are seen know him that is: neither by considering the works did they acknowledge the workmaster; 2 but deemed either fire, or wind, or the swift air, or the circle of the stars, or the violent water, or the lights of heaven, to be the gods which govern the world. 3 With whose beauty if they being delighted took them to be gods; let them know how much better the Lord of them is: for the first Author of beauty hath created them. 4 But if they were astonished at their power and virtue, let them understand by them, how much mightier he is that made them.
5 For by the greatness and beauty of the creatures proportionably the Maker of them is seen. 6 But yet for this they are the less to be blamed: for they peradventure err, seeking God, and desirous to find him. 7 For being conversant in his works they search him diligently, and believe their sight: because the things are beautiful that are seen. 8 Howbeit neither are they to be pardoned. 9 For if they were able to know so much, that they could aim at the world; how did they not sooner find out the Lord thereof?
The Bible makes a lot more sense when we view the stars as angels. For example how can all the stars fall from heaven to earth at the end of the tribulation? Just one star (a massive burning gas giant star) would destroy the earth completely. What would happen if trillions of stars fell upon the earth? But if stars are angels that is a different matter. See the verses bellow.
Revelation 6:12–15 I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, Matthew 24:30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Mark 13:25 the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. Isaiah 34:4 All the host of heaven shall be dissolved, And the heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll; All their host shall fall down As the leaf falls from the vine, And as fruit falling from a fig tree. Isaiah 13:10 For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not give their light; The sun will be darkened in its going forth, And the moon will not cause its light to shine. Isaiah 24:21–23 It shall come to pass in that day That the Lord will punish on high the host of exalted ones, And on the earth the kings of the earth. They will be gathered together, As prisoners are gathered in the pit, And will be shut up in the prison; After many days they will be punished. Then the moon will be disgraced And the sun ashamed; For the Lord of hosts will reign On Mount Zion and in Jerusalem And before His elders, gloriously.
God’s throne is above the heavens as we are told in Psalms and in Isaiah. Isaiah 40:22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in. Psalm 11:4 The Lord is in His holy temple, The Lord’s throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men. Isaiah 66:1 Thus says the Lord: Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest? At the end of time God will roll up the heavens (firmament) and reveal His glorious throne and person to the inhabitants of the earth. See Isa 64:1 also. When mankind see the Son of God in His glorious habitation coming to judge them they will fear and try and hide from His wrath.
In the last days God will send His elect angels to destroy Babylon. See the following. Isaiah 13:1–6 The burden against Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw. “Lift up a banner on the high mountain, Raise your voice to them; Wave your hand, that they may enter the gates of the nobles. I have commanded My sanctified ones; I have also called My mighty ones for My anger— Those who rejoice in My exaltation.” The noise of a multitude in the mountains, Like that of many people! A tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together! The Lord of hosts musters The army for battle. They come from a far country, From the end of heaven The Lord and His weapons of indignation, To destroy the whole land. Wail, for the day of the Lord is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.
Many verses tell of signs in the heavens and on earth in the last days. God’s judgments involve the sun, moon and stars. (remember Genesis 1:14-15) Ezekiel 32:7 When I put out your light, I will cover the heavens, and make its stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, And the moon shall not give her light. Joel 2:10 The earth quakes before them, The heavens tremble; The sun and moon grow dark, And the stars diminish their brightness. Joel 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. Joel 3:15 The sun and moon will grow dark, And the stars will diminish their brightness. Daniel 8:10–11 And it (the little horn - antichrist) grew up to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and trampled them. He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down.
Matthew 24:29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Luke 21:25-26 “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Acts 2:19–20 I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.
The following verses from the Book of Enoch describe the angels and their work in the heavenly realm with the forces of nature.
Enoch 14:17 Its foundation was of fire and its upper part was lightning and the spreading out of stars, and its roof was burning fire. (could the roof be the firmament, or the sea of glass) Revelation 15:2 And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God. Enoch 17:3 There I saw a place of luminaries and the treasure of stars and thunder, and into the depths of air where there is a bow of fire, arrows and their housings and all kinds of lightning.
Enoch 18:4, 13–14 I saw the winds of the heavens turning and completing the wheel of the sun and all the stars. There I saw seven stars like great burning mountains about which I inquired. The angel said, “This place is the end of heaven and earth; this prison was in the stars and in the powers of heaven. Enoch 33:1 1 And from thence I went to the ends of the earth and saw there great beasts, and each differed from the other; and (I saw) birds also differing in appearance and beauty and voice, the one differing from the other. And to the east of those beasts I saw the ends of the earth whereon the heaven rests, and the portals of the heaven open.
Enoch 33:2-4 2 And I saw how the stars of heaven come forth, and I counted the portals out of which they proceed, 3 and wrote down all their outlets, of each individual star by itself, according to their number and their names, their courses and their positions, and their times and their months, as Uriel the holy angel who was with me showed me. 4 He showed all things to me and wrote them down for me: also their names he wrote for me, and their laws and their companies.
Enoch 431 And I saw other lightnings and the stars of heaven, and I saw how He called them all by their names and they hearkened unto Him. 2 And I saw how they are weighed in a righteous balance according to their proportions of light: (I saw) the width of their spaces and the day of their appearing, and how their revolution produces lightning: and (I saw) their revolution according to the number of the angels, and (how) they keep faith with each other.
Enoch 69:20-21 20 And through that oath the sun and moon complete their course, And deviate not from their ordinance from eternity to eternity. 21 And through that oath the stars complete their course, And He calls them by their names, Enoch 71:4 4 And he showed me all the secrets of the ends of the heaven, And all the chambers of all the stars, and all the luminaries, Whence they proceed before the face of the holy ones. And they answer Him from eternity to eternity.
Enoch 75:1-5 1 And the leaders of the heads of the thousands, who are placed over the whole creation and over all the stars, have also to do with the four intercalary days, being inseparable from their office, according to the reckoning of the year, and these render service on the four days which are not reckoned in the reckoning of the year. 3 For the signs and the times and the years and the days the angel Uriel showed to me, whom the Lord of glory hath set for ever over all the luminaries of the heaven, in the heaven and in the world, that they should rule on the face of the heaven and be seen on the earth, and be leaders for the day and the night, i.e. the sun, moon, and stars, and all the ministering creatures which make their revolution in all the chariots of the heaven. 5 [And for the winds and the spirit of the dew† when they are opened, standing open in the heavens at the ends.]
Enoch 75:6-8 6 As for the twelve portals in the heaven, at the ends of the earth, out of which go forth the sun, moon, and stars, and all the works of heaven in the east and in the west, 7 There are many windows open to the left and right of them, and one window at its (appointed) season produces warmth, corresponding (as these do) to those doors from which the stars come forth according as He has commanded them, and wherein they set corresponding to their number. 8 And I saw chariots in the heaven, running in the world, above those portals in which revolve the stars that never set.
Enoch 80:1 1 And in those days the angel Uriel answered and said to me: ‘Behold, I have shown thee everything, Enoch, and I have revealed everything to thee that thou shouldst see this sun and this moon, and the leaders of the stars of the heaven and all those who turn them, their tasks and times and departures.
Enoch 80:2-8 Perversion of Nature and the heavenly Bodies owing to the Sin of Men.
2 And in the days of the sinners the years shall be shortened, And their seed shall be tardy on their lands and fields, And all things on the earth shall alter, And shall not appear in their time: And the rain shall be kept back And the heaven shall withhold (it). 3 And in those times the fruits of the earth shall be backward, And shall not grow in their time, And the fruits of the trees shall be withheld in their time. 4 And the moon shall alter her order, And not appear at her time. 5 [And in those days the sun shall be seen and he shall journey in the evening †on the extremity of the great chariot in †the west] And shall shine more brightly than accords with the order of light. 6 And many chiefs of the stars shall transgress the order (prescribed). And these shall alter their orbits and tasks, And not appear at the seasons prescribed to them. 7 And the whole order of the stars shall be concealed from the sinners, And the thoughts of those on the earth shall err concerning them, [And they shall be altered from all their ways], Yea, they shall err and take them to be gods. 8 And evil shall be multiplied upon them, And punishment shall come upon them So as to destroy all.
