What is the Call of God?

God calls us into accomplishing His will. There are different levels to God’s calling.
Macro-level - A macro-level calling is a general calling to all followers of Jesus. This includes the commandments and mission stated in the Bible.
Micro-level calling - A micro-level calling is a unique individual purpose that God has given us. In this calling we are called to use our specific gifts to fulfill a specific purpose for God’s glory and plan.
What are the two types of callings?

Macro-level Calling

Mark 12:28–31 (ESV): Which commandment is the most important of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Micro-level Calling

1 Corinthians 12:4–7 (ESV): 4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good

The Mission

Matthew 28:18–20 (ESV): And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Are we supposed to go or stay to make disciples?
Is a nation a people group or country?
Which nations are we supposed to make disciples?

Biblical Examples of Callings

Joseph

Joseph consistently acted in the commands of God. He ultimately lived a loving and forgiving life. He also used his gifts to steward Pharoah sphere of influence. In the end, Joseph discipled the people of Egypt and Israel by modeling God’s love and wisdom to them.
