The Power of No Part #2:

Seven Places We Need to Say NO!!

7-12-09

Series on the Power of Yes and No

Let your Yes be YES and your NO be NO Matt 5:37 let 5your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.

We Need that CLARITY—

·                    Because We are a people of FAITH

·                    We have to have clarity of our boundaries

·                    Etc. Develop

Boundary—Ps 16

5     Lord, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure.

6        The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.

Review Last week:

·                    Taking a NO position

[1]

No Positive

·                    Positive Twist on it

·                    Has an attitude with it

·                    An attitude of ‘no more’, enough is enough, I draw the line here

World—Flesh—Devil

Conviction—Truth/Value that you COMPLETELY sell OUT to

·                    CONVICTION vs ‘free floating belief’

When there is the LINE drawn—the MOMENTUM shifts

·                    And that’s the POWER of the NO position

·                    LEVER—Fulcrum

·                    As believers we need to DEFINE our No Position

TITLE

What you are saying no to:

·                    No to all of his footholds

o       Eph 4:27 and do not give the devil a foothold.

o       Position that is useable for base for his advancement in your life

o       Place where he can get further LATER ON in your life

‘Give Foothold’:  Greek definitions

·                    GIVE= Allow, grant appoint

·                    Foothold=License, room, place, possibility

Literally, to GRANT LICENSE

·                    Give ‘permit’ to build

o       He has License

o       He can choose to build OR WAIT

o       Foothold theme

·                    Legally NOW can build

Foothold is literally granting enemy a

·                    Building Permit to build something IN YOUR LIFE!!!!

o       Unconfessed sin, unresolved issues

§        Like the BEGINNINGS of MERSA—flesh eating—

§        Starts with just a SPOT—grows

o       Land Mines

§        I would NEVER . . . .

§        However, under THESE circumstances, I might . . . ADULTRY . . . .

There needs to places where we have a FIERCE RESOLVE

·                    Do wise things—

·                    Saying NO often EQUALS Action!!!!

·                    If I’m going to say no to flesh—I need to BUILD THE SAFTEY PROCEDURES

·                    Example—dating

A NO position on footholds

·                    Gives a FREEDOM to our lives

·                    Be aware—‘schemes’—well thought out

·                    If enemy STUDIES our lives . . . wouldn’t it stand to reason that he would study our footholds??

Footholds block us from selling out

·                    We aren’t saying a decisive NO to sin or access

·                    We keep a door open, ‘just in case’

·                    Deadly

o       Give

o       That he may come to his senses/wake up

o       Escape traps/snares of the devil

o       Recognize the trap!!!!! – Say NO to it!!!

§        Sometimes TRAIN CRASH in SLOW MOTION

§        Sometimes GENERATIONAL pattern

§        Alcoholism—where some MAY—we CAN’T

§        NO involves ACTION

§        We have a CHOICE/position

§        Part of equation—YOU must RESIST

o       Do NOT let Him invade your life

§        Zero tolerance

·                    RESIST Enemy—Draw NEAR to GOD!!

§        Too often flirt/allow/get comfortable with

·                    No to condemnation

o       Rev 12:9-11

9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:

“Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God,

and the authority of his Christ.

For the accuser of our brothers,

who accuses them before our God day and night,

has been hurled down. They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb  and by the word of their testimony;

they did not love their lives so much

as to shrink from death.

[4]

o       Define Condemnation Vs. Conviction

o       By GRACE we are saved—not works  Eph 2:8

§        We need a CONDEMNATION detector!!

§        (so we can draw the line)

o       Enemy accuses day and night

o       Belittles you

o       If you listen—you get beat down

Romans 8:1  Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,[5]

·                    No to spiritual parasites

o       II Cor 2:11 Less Satan should take advantage

o       We’re not ignorant of his devices

if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, 11 in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

tAnd their righteousness is from Me,”

     Says the Lord.

[7]

o       Decisive Choice:  These weapons WON’T prosper

§        Weapons of discouragement

[9]

Just like you need to RESIST the enemy for him to FLEE (James 4:7)

·                     You need to REFUTE--Condemn

·                     Resist the tongue of the accuser

Paul shook the snake off that bit him

·                     And the poison didn't affect him

·                     We need to 'shake off' the poison of the tongues of accusation

·                     Discern them

·                     'Judge' Them

·                     Condemn them-

·                     And 'Shake them Off'

o       Even though

·                    No to his devouring

o       I Peter 5:8-9 enemy like roaring lion

8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

[10]

o

o       Seek and devour

§        Develop—‘devour’

o       And leave you with nothing

o       RESIST HIM—say ‘NO!!!!!’

o       Stand FIRM in the faith
