Introduction:

The phrase “Word of the Lord,” appears approximately 258 times in your Kings James Bible. It doesn’t take deep theology, or a doctorate degree to figure out the “Word of the Lord,” is when God is speaking directly to a person or group.
It refers to a decree:
Gen 1:1-3 “1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”
Psalm 33:6 “6 By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; And all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.”
It can be used when God is directly speaking to individuals or groups through a man of God:
Here Moses is speaking with the authority of God. This is what we do when preach or teach. We are speaking with the authority of the Word of the Lord.
Deut 4:2 “2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.”
C. The word of the Lord as declared by the preacher
Deut 5:5 “5 (I stood between the Lord and you at that time, to shew you the word of the Lord: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,”
Jer 1:9 “9 Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.”
It can Refer to Jesus Christ Himself
John 1:1 “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Rev 19:13 “13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.”
Finally, it can be a reference to the actual written Word of God
Exodus 17:14 “14 And the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.”
Exod 34:27 “27 And the Lord said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.”
In summary look at
2 Tim 3:16-17 “16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
I wanted this sermon to have relevance to the what Pastor has been covering when it comes to music. What Pastor has been emphasizing this entire series is not so much what you can’t do - but what you should do. Pastor is not saying this or that is bad, he is saying this is better. However, an anchor verse in Pastors series, is also an anchor verse in this sermon:
Eph 5:10 “10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.”
Now, let’s turn to the passage I want to preach on tonight.
2 Kings 13:14-20 “14 Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. 15 And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows. 16 And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands. 17 And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them. 18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed. 19 And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst…”
