David said “I will LIFT UP mine eyes unto the hills,” for him to say this he had to be in a valley.
The “journey” of the Christian life is much like a journey across the world would be. You are going to come to places that are going to be in the valley and you are going to have all the underbrush and briars and thickets to contend with. These places are going to be abundant and they will be large places that will often take much time and effort to cross.
There will be other places where you will be on the top of the mountain tops and will be able to fully behold the beauty of the view that stretches for miles and miles. Here there is no underbrush, no thorns, no thickets, and for the most part no real hardships.
However, to get here you must first cross the valley and then you must make the climb to the top. These places will be few and far between and will not be as large and will require much less time to cross.
The beauty of it all is that on the mountain you have time to rest, in the valley is where God is working on you, and getting all the imperfections out of your life and allowing you to see that He is faithful. The valley is also the place where God allows you grow. Here is where the still waters of life are found and where the pastures are the greenest, and where the grass is the softest for the weary traveler to find out just how much God really loves us.
