Numbers 13:30 KJV (WS)
And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
Moses sent twelve men into the land of Canaan to check out the land and bring a report to the people.
Ten of the twelve men came back and said the land was too difficult to conquer.
Caleb and Joshua, however had a different report.
It was the report of faith.
Unbelief, however, reigned in the camp and the report of faith was rejected.
Here we look at the report of faith and note some of its great features.
FIRST—FAITH BRINGS PEACE
“Caleb stilled the people.”
Why did the people need to be stilled.
Romans 10:17 KJV (WS)
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Because the report of unbelief, which was given first, had upset the people.
Buy Caleb spoke from faith.
Faith marvelously stills the soul of a person.
When troubles overwhelm the soul, faith can bring a calmness that will calm the most upset soul.
Especially does faith bring calmness in salvation.
Romans 5:1 KJV (WS)
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
The world today lies in great unbelief.
That explains why they are in a state of great unrest. Unbelief does not bring tranquility.
SECOND—FAITH PRODUCES PASSION
“Let us go up at once”
Hebrews 11:1 KJV (WS)
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
When faith is present, it will inspire to earnest and prompt action.
Caleb’s faith gave him zeal. He had no use for procrastination but urged prompt action. Faith stirs the heart into action for God.
The critics, who live in unbelief, will criticize this zeal and oppose it and call it fanaticism and other reproachful names.
Unbelief kills zeal for the things of the Lord. Unbelief can get excited about earthly things but when God is involved, unbelief losses its zeal.
The reason many of our churches do not do much for the Lord is because the people lack zeal for God’s work do not have much faith.
THIRD—FAITH PROVIDES POSSESSIONS
“Possess it.”
Mark 11:22–24 KJV (WS)
And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Faith makes us full, but unbelief will make us empty.
The land of Canaan was a wonderful land to possess.
Some of the spies had brought back a cluster of grapes so large that it took two men to carry it.
Yet the Israelites were unwilling to conquer the land.
So they lived in the barren wilderness for forth years.
They could have possessed so much blessing, but lacking faith, they walked in barrenness.
You will not obtain much in the line of blessing from God if you do not live by faith.
FOURTH—FAITH GIVES POWER
“We are well able to overcome it.”
Luke 1:37 KJV (WS)
For with God nothing shall be impossible.
Faith is where the power is.
It would take some great strength and power to conquer Canaan and if the Israelites looked at their own strength and power, they would and did wilt before the difficulties.
But faith looks at the greatness of God’s power and sees in Him the ability to conquer though difficult the task.
Caleb believed God was on their side and that this would enable them to conquer the land.
Unbelief only looked at its own power which was weakness at its best.
