*PSALM 37:3-4, 5-6, 39-40*

 

We are sharing the message “God’s Call of the Righteous” as brought forth in Psalm 37.

 

*If you recall, Psalm literally means “plucking the strings of a harp.”

They convey in words the inner most feelings of our hearts expression.

It is our heart “playing” to the Lord our prayers, our concerns, our faith, and our praise.*

*Psalm 37 is an acrostic poem, the stanzas of which begin with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet.

(Aleph, Bet, Gimmel, etc.)*

*We stated it is:  **The ABC’s of God’s promise to the righteous.*

That there are six elements that are found if followed give peace to the believer regarding God’s promises and they are;

 

Do not FRET.

TRUST in the LORD.

DELIGHT yourself in the LORD.

COMMIT our WAY to the LORD.

REST in the LORD.

And WAIT on the LORD.

Last time we shared the message “Do not Fret.”

We concluded that we have peace when we understand God is in control and we do not “fret.”

Today:

Therefore God is in control so our part is to “trust in the Lord.”

39But the salvation of the righteous /is/ from the Lord; /He is/ their strength in the time of trouble.

40And the Lord shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they *trust* in Him.

       3*Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident)* in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed.

4Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.

5Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; *trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident)* also in Him and He will bring it to pass.

6And He will make your uprightness and right standing with God go forth as the light, and your justice and right as [the shining sun of] the noonday.

39But the salvation of the [consistently] righteous is of the Lord; He is their Refuge and secure Stronghold in the time of trouble.

40And the Lord helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they *trust and take refuge* in Him.

*God is in control, however our part is to TRUST Him.*

*We can know we have confidence in God by answering the following questions:*

* *

1. *Are you doing what is right in the sight of God? *

* *

2. *Are you getting rid of the things in your life that displease God?*

* *

3. *Do you trust God completely?*

* *

4. *Are you holding on to the things of God and keeping His commands?*

* *

*The best way we could make an evaluation of answering this question is to look at an example found in God’s Word.*

* *

*Examples of one who TRUSTED the Lord:*

* *

*This word “baw-tok” is found 120 times in the Old Testament.

Out of all the times it is used – three individuals come to the forefront trusting in the Lord.

Of course we have the example of David, the other one is Job but more than these is the example of King Hezekiah where almost 1~/10 of the times this word is used it is used in describing this King.

If Abraham was called a the father of faith, and Moses a friend of God, and David a man after God’s own heart, then Hezekiah would be called the man who trusted God.*

To fully understand this let’s take some time to look at the life of Hezekiah.

What is the result of TRUSTING the Lord?

*If you answered the preceding questions truthfully in the affirmative then you can have the absolute confidence of the following results:*

5. *God will be with you.*

* *

6. *You won’t be distracted by others because of their disobedience.*

* *

7. *Satan** will try to strike fear into your heart.*

* *

8. *But God is for us and not against us, if we are for God.*

* *

Blessed /is/ the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2but his delight /is/ in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.

3He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

4The ungodly /are/ not so, but /are/ like the chaff which the wind drives away.

5Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
