Luke 1:26-35

Given from Mary’s perspective
26.Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,
27.to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.
-Virgin(Gk-echoes prophecy of the virgin birth)
-Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, And shall call his name Immanuel.” (God with us,Matt1:23 “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” )
-Betrothed(memnesteumenen); to be engaged
“According to Jewish law, being betroth was just as slegally binding as being married”.
-House of David-refers to tribe of Judah rfom which prophecies said the messiah would come. Genesis 49:9-10 “Judah is a lion’s whelp: From the prey, my son, thou art gone up: He stooped down, he couched as a lion, And as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh come; And unto him shall the gathering of the people be.”
28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” 29.But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30.Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
-Highly Favored- Literally meas “full of grace”, though understanding it it undeserved
31.And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.32. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33.And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

His father David-Jeusus is the physical descent through mary’s line.
David’s throne symbolizes the messianic kingdom
2 samuel 7:13-16 “He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.”
Psalm 89:26-29 “He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, My God, and the rock of my salvation. Also I will make him my firstborn, Higher than the kings of the earth. My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, And my covenant shall stand fast with him. His seed also will I make to endure for ever, And his throne as the days of heaven.”
Over the house of Jacob forever-emphasizes
Jewish character of milliniel kingdom
2. the eternal permance of Christ’s rule over all
isaiah 9:6-7 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, Upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, To order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice From henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
34.Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” 35.And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
