Opening
• Welcome
• Events: Christmas program, Banquet, Candle Lighting Christmas night
• Lori up to talk about banquet
• Boudreaux Joke
Message Opening
• 2nd Sunday of December
• Advent
• Anticipate Jesus’ arrival
• So much more to it than we think sometimes
At the Right Time
• What does “in the fullness of time” mean?
• When the stage had been fully set and the situation prepared
• When everything was in place
When things coalesce so that God’s purpose can be accomplished in creation
• “coalesce” - when things come together to form a whle
• “creation” - what God has made
• How is it that the “fullness of time” came on that first Christmas?
• Not a phrase to just pass over
• Awesomeness of God
• A glimpse of what had to come together for it to be the “fullness of time”
• Think about this:
• From Genesis the promise of savior
• From Abram - savior would come from a chosen nation
• Had to be a time when that nation was intact but under subjection (otherwise wouldn’t be looking for a messiah)
• There had to be a ruling authority to take the census that forced Joseph and Mary to have to travel to Bethlehem at that particular time
• It had to be a time when Israel was a nation with Jerusalem as its central city.
• Though crucifixion was not unique to Rome, it had to be the primary means of executing the death penalty - and the method had to be one of nails in the hands and feet
• The fulfillment:
• There had to be a functioning, ruling priesthood with enough power to bring about His death
• “set a sign”
• Pul - Libya - the Simon that carried the cross for Jesus was from Libya
• Lud - Turkey - Iconium, Antioch
• Tubal - Turkey
• Javan - Greece
• All under the control of Rome
• Apostle Paul was from Ephesus, Turkey
• Roman road system
• Protection
Application to Today
• You may not realize it, but “fullness of time” is happening in your life
God will always accomplish His purpose
God has made me a two-fold promise:
1) He will use my circumstances to accomplish His purpose in me
2) He will accomplish that purpose at the right time
Closing
• Are you in a place now where you wonder if God is going to come through?
The fullness of time is coming, I promise.
He's setting things up so that at just that right moment, just that right time, He can bring all things together so that His purpose can be recognized in His creation - YOU!
