We are continuing our series this morning What child is this?
This four-week Christmas sermon series looks at Isaiah 9:6 and the titles given to the Christ child Isaiah prophesied would come.
So if you have your bible go head and turn to Isaiah 9:6. If not you can follow ago on the screen in a few minutes.
So far we have looked at Wonderful Counselor and this child that was to be born for us. We saw how this baby would be the one that can guild us. He will be the one right there for you. This name means Wonder of a Cousellor. We are all in need of a person to lead and guild us. That is was Jesus does for us. He is your Wonderful Counselor.
Last week we looked at Mighty God. We saw that this name means hero God. Most hero will go away after something. We forget about them. They also die. This child that can for us. This child that would die for us is our Hero that will never go anywhere. He was here for the beginning of time and will be here to the end of time. He is the one you can rely on for anything.
This morning we are look at our next Name Everlasting Father. What does that mean? What does Everlasting stand for? How can you trust that he will be everlasting?
Before we look at answering this question. I have another question for you. So thing for a moment.

What do you think of when I say everlasting ?

I was thinking on this question last night. One of the thing at came to mind was the everlasting Gobstoppers for the movie Willy Wonka. This Godstoppers was a new candy that would give you a meal all in one piece of candy but there was a problem right. Veruca take the Everlasting Gobstopper and eating to get a whole meal but end up ballooning up like a big blueberry.
We all want thing to be everlasting. We want thing to last forever. We want people to never change But in the end all thing change. People change. The world changes.
Isaiah 9:6 CSB
6 For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 ESV
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
You might be wondering

Why are there two different words before Father?

Eternal and everlasting. They both have different means right.
Eternal- ever end
Everlasting- Always there never changing
You is its two word that mean the same thing but put a little different look to the words. The bible was written in Hebrew and Greek. But our english word something do not do it right.
The word in Hebrew is AD. during the life time of a king. It also go back to
Davidic Ruler- A descendant of David whom God will set as a ruler over his people.

What does it mean for Everlasting Father?

This passage is talk about Jesus. How can Jesus be the father when God is all ready the Father? Yes they are both part of the trinity. They are both equal. But Isaiah here calls Jesus Eternal/everlasting Father.
If you take just that one two word out of context. You can easily say that Jesus now the Father. But that is not what this is saying.
This passage is talk about Kingship of Jesus. You see we all want a king that will rule forever in the right way. The way of love.
You see. Jesus can be the king over your life. He can be your king. if you let him.

Jesus can be the King over your life

Sometimes viewing our lives as moments leading up to a grand event helps us see glimpses of what God is doing. However, Jesus’s arrival centuries ago and his subsequent death, burial, and bodily resurrection call us to accept that in some ways the grand event is already in motion.
Application Point: No matter what we face in life, we can trust that we have already begun to experience the rule of an everlasting King; this gives us perspective and comfort.

Will you surrender to Him his morning?

Will you let him be your Eternal and everlasting Father. This little child came to save you. He came so we do not have to face the con. of sin.
