Know Your Tools Part 4C: The Gifts of the Spirit
We are given a toolbox from Jesus Christ when we are reconciled to God and join the family of God.
This happens at the point of making Jesus Christ our Lord and Savor.
This includes many items.
It is important learn how and when to use them.
Salvation does not equal proficiency with these spiritual tools.
We will put these all together at the end of this series for developing a divine nature.
These tools are divided into three categories.
The Armor of God
Belt of Truth
Breastplate of Righteousness
Shoes of the Preparation of the Gospel of Peace
Shield of Faith
Helmet of Salvation
Sword of the Spirit = Word of God
The Fruits of the Spirit
Love
Joy
Peace
Patience
Kindness
Goodness
Faithfulness
Gentleness
Self-Control
Here is where they begin to look different.
The Gifts of the Spirit.
The Word of Wisdom
Word of Knowledge
Faith
Gifts of Healing
Working of Miracles
Discerning of Spirits
Today we are going to pick up with:
Prophecy
To speak forth the messages of God to believers or groups of believers.
Now this can be a tricky area.
Many have come and said they spoke for God but were not of God.
If someone says they have the gift of prophecy and the prophecy given does not come to pass, they obviously do not have the gift of prophecy.
A prophecy will never contradict the Word of God.
This is not the ministry of being a prophet as spoke of in Ephesians which is about leadership.
This is something the Holy Spirit can give to whomever.
Remember, the gifts of the Spirit are never to edify whom they are given to or be used as a source of empowerment.
The gifts are strictly given for the benefit of others.
Gift of Tongues
This is not your personal prayer language.
The next two gifts, the gifts of tongues and the interpretation of tongues, work together.
This is a direct message from the Lord given in a certain language.
It can be a heavenly language or a language unknown to the speaker but to someone else in the room.
I have seen this happen before where the Lord has a message for someone and God gives the message in their home language.
Interpretation of Tongues
This is so we can know what the message is.
Hearing the message in a language we do not understand does not benefit us if we do not understand it.
God is not the author of confusion.
Paul gives us a guideline on how tongues and the interpretation are meant to work in a church setting.
Conclusion:
It is God’s will for us to live an overcoming life.
A life full of freedom from sin and fulfillment in the riches of God’s mercy and grace.
We are meant to have a powerful mind and a servants heart just like Jesus.
These things are not natural.
You were not born with them.
These come from utilizing the tools we have been given.
Maybe you have not used the tools correctly or not at all.
Maybe you have not made Jesus your Lord and Saviour so these have not been a part of your life.
Great news.
Today is your day.
Jesus has already done the hard part and He makes it as easy as knowing your A, B, C’s.

B - Believe
