A 'One of a Kind' Gift
“Thank God for this gift, His gift. No language can praise it enough!” (The Message Bible)
“Thank God for His gift that words can’t describe.” (Common English Bible)
“Thanks be to God for His inexpressible gift!” (English Standard Version)
“Thanksbe unto God for his unspeakable gift.[1]”

If we travel 206 miles east of Dallas, we would wind up in a town called Arcadia, Louisiana; and drive approximately another 15 miles east of Arcadia, Louisiana, we would end up in the town of Grambling, Louisiana. The home of Grambling State University where the Grambling State University – world famed - Tiger Marching Band, has been tagged with the mantra, “Often Imitated, But Never Duplicated.”

Amazingly, a one-of-a-kind gift is just that – a ONE OF A KIND gift! There is no gift that parallels to this gift!

The central idea of the text is that Paul is moving from the physical thanksgiving of humans giving to humans to the spiritual where the Creator is highlighted giving to the human creature.
The main objective of the sermon is to help us maintain our focus on God’s giving of His indescribable gift of Christ to the world.
I. Praise for the Gift

- “THANKSGIVING. Greek words derived from the root eucharist- are used in the NT almost exclusively in the sense of thanksgiving directed to God...”[2]
- Thanksgiving is not only in November! Thanksgiving should be every day of the year.
- That is all THANKGIVING is – it is GIVING THANKS!
- Giving thanks is not just an ACT, but an ATTITUDE! An attitude of gratitude! Thanksgiving is an ATTITUDE, that is made manifest in our ACTS/ACTIONS!
- Giving thanks should be perpetual(defined-never ending, never changing)!
o Psalm 34:1, “I will bless the Lord at ALL TIMES, and His praise shall continually be in mouth!
o Psalm 113:3, “From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD'S name is to be praised.”

- His- a pronoun that shows possession or ownership...
- The giver in verse 15 is different than the givers in the previous verses who are the Corinthians and Macedonians.[3]
- Cp John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that HE GAVEHis only begotten son…”

- What is the is gift???
o It is not Paul’s gratefulness for the grace of Christian liberality
o It is not the excellent gospel fruit of racial reconciliation
o It is not the spiritual cooperation between Jew and Gentile
- “It is no doubt Paul is referring to God’s unique gift of His only Son to be the Savior of mankind— “the divine gift which inspires all gifts” (Tasker).
- “The Christian’s eternal salvation rests solely upon the foundation of God’s unspeakable gift: what could be more proper than that he should give freely and bountifully to others? This is the logic of redemption: “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another” (1 John 4:11).
- Isaiah 53:5, “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
