Introduction

We were slaves to sin

Because of the choices of Adam and Eve we are born with a sin nature
We are told in Adam all die 1 Corinthians 15.22
1 Corinthians 15:22 NIV
For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
We are told that all sin
Romans 3:23 NIV
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
If we deny that have sin we are lying to ourselves
1 John 1:8 NIV
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
Because of our sin natures we are slaves to sin
Jesus told us that are slaves to our sin nature
John 8:34 NIV
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.
Our sin nature causes us to choose sin.
Sin breads more sin
There is nothing we can do to break from our sin cycle
The Law of Moses is there to show us our sin
But even when the Law shows us our sin we continue to break the law
Our sin nature encourages us to sin

It took a Baby to redeem us

Since there is nothing we can do to break the sin cycle God had to intervene
God could have intervened by his own power
He could have made us puppets
God could have intervened by sending a warrior
Saul, David
God choose to redeem us through what seemed like an unlikely method
He did it by coming to earth as a baby.
He was born under the law
He was a Hebrew by birth
He was born as one who would follow the law
He was born to redeem those under the law
He came to show us how to live into the law
To show us how to obey God’s law

He will return to redeem all creation

Our salvation is only the beginning
Revelation 21:1–6 NIV
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.
One day all creation will be redeemed
When we celebrate Christmas
We are remembering the baby born to redeem us
We are also preparing for one day when Jesus returns and all of creation is healed.
