Focus Passage: Jeremiah 25:30-38
7 Metaphors Used by God to Reveal His Judgement to Judah
The Roaring Lion (vv.30a, 38)
Jeremiah 25:30a, 38 (KJV) 30a Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation...38 He hath forsaken his covert, as the lion: for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger.
Hosea 1:10 KJV
10 Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.
Revelation 5:5–7 KJV
5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. 6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. 7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
The Winepress (vv.30b-31a)
Jeremiah 25:30–31a (KJV) 30b ...he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. 31a A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth...
Isaiah 63:6 KJV
6 And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.
The lawsuit (v.31b)
Jeremiah 25:31b (KJV) 31b for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD.
Micah 6:2 KJV
2 Hear ye, O mountains, the LORD’S controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the LORD hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel.
Be Decisive Chapter Eight: Facing Truth and Fighting Lies (Jeremiah 25–29)

In this “trial” there would be a Judge but no jury, an indictment but no defense, and a sentence but no appeal. God had given His people plenty of opportunity to admit their guilt and repent, but they refused. Now it was too late.

The Storm (vv.32-33a)
Jeremiah 25:32–33a (KJV) 32 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth. 33a And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth...
Jeremiah 23:19 KJV
19 Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.
The act of disgrace and the position of refuse (v.33b)
Jeremiah 25:33 (NASB95) 33b ...They will not be lamented, gathered or buried; they will be like dung on the face of the ground.
Isaiah 25:10–11 KJV
10 For in this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill. 11 And he shall spread forth his hands in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth spreadeth forth his hands to swim: and he shall bring down their pride together with the spoils of their hands.
The act of being broken like treasured pottery (vv.34) cf. Jeremiah 19:1-13
Jeremiah 25:34 (KJV) 34 Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel.
Jesus will one day judge and destroy the world powers like pottery
Psalm 9:2 KJV
2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.
The Slaughter Flock (vv.34-37)
Jeremiah 25:34–37 (KJV) 34 Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel. 35 And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape. 36 A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: for the LORD hath spoiled their pasture. 37 And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the LORD.
We must remember that judgement begins at the house of God
1 Peter 4:17 KJV
17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
