Life Continues

The birth of Cain
Means “I have gotten”
Eve initially thought Cain was the Messiah
The birth of Abel
Means “Vanity”

Two Offerings

Cain’s offering
Abel’s offering
One offering accepted and the other rejected
Cain’s offering was rejected because of the content of his offering and the heart in which he gave his offering.

The Sin of Cain

It was different than the sin of his father. Adam tried to be like God. Cain, recognizing he was not God, wanted to approach God on his own terms.
Often, our approach to worship is more like Cain’s than Abel’s.
We are focused on what we like at worship more than asking what does God accept.
Churches spend a lot of time trying to “do worship” that pleases people rather than God.
We sometimes (or oftentimes) give God the leftovers.

How to Offer Acceptable Worship

Give worship the priority it deserves.
Give your best to worship.
Ensure that the worship you offer is Biblical.
Come with the right heart and intentions to worship.
