Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like the beasts that perish.

And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them. And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way. As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering. So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, and all his household. This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.

So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill.

When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.
Man responds to news Jesus was in the region and goes to him
He persistantly asks Jesus to return with him to heal his son
John confirms that the child is at the point of death
So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.”
Jesus tenderly rebukes the man
People are demanding Jesus to heal
Yet they lack the acceptance of Jesus
The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
The official is caught up in his son’s situation
Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way.
“Go; your son lives”
The official accepts statement and believes Jesus has healed his son
The man goes back home
As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering.
As he journey’s home his servants meet him
They tell him of the good news about his son is alive
So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”
The man had been thinking about Jesus’ words
He enquires about the timing if his son’s change of health
The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, and all his household.
He realises the time matches Jesus’ words
He and his household are converted
This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.
