As we have studied the Kings of Judah/David we have seen good kings and bad kings, and some eh, just okay kings
We have seen God’s blessings on Judah and God’s judgment of Judah.
As we study the rest of the kings this will become more exagerated as one king lead Judah into idolatry and then another king will lead the nation into restoration
However, We will see today in 2 Chronicles 27 that the success or failure of Judah mostly weighs on the king

The People did yet corruptly

Jotham was following after God doing right in His sight
He even learned from his father’s mistakes and did not go into the temple
He remained humble and loved the law of God
However, the people of Judah continued after the false worship of idols in the high places
They did not follow the leadership of their king
They did not follow the urging of the prophets and priests to do right in the sight of God

The King was blessed by God

In every way God was blessing Judah because of the faithfulness of the king
He prepared his ways before the Lord his God
This is the reason given for the success of Judah in battle, commerce, etc
Jotham became mighty and was used by God to bring blessings to Judah
He built fortresses and towers for Judah’s protection from enemies
All enemies had to send tribute to Judah and there was times of plenty across the nation

The headship over a people

God overlooked the wickedness and corruption of the people because of the faithfulness of the head
As God blessed the head of Judah, it flowed down to the baser parts
This shows the importance of the throne and who stis on it.
God will overlook the sins of the nation if the king is righteous before him
The king must prepare his ways before God so that nation will be blessed
Jesus is the head of the church by whom all blessings flow
Psalms 133 teaches us about this truth of Headship blessing
Ephesians 1:1-14 In Christ we receive blessings from God
Without Christ we have no hope of eternal blessings from God
Outside of Christ we are subject to the judgment of God for the sins of man
Because of Christ, God shows mercy and grace even upon sinful men.
