It has been said that in a lifetime the average American will spend:

Six months sitting at stoplights
Eight months opening junk mail
One year looking for misplaced objects
Two years unsuccessfully returning phone calls
Four years doing housework
Five years waiting in line
Six years eating

How many of us realize that we have spent a whole year looking for lost items? All that time spent adds up in the long run! But I am curious what the number would be if you added up all the time you have spent with God so far in life? Would it be a year? A month? A week? You take time to look for lost items, yet do you take time for your Lord and Saviour?

Many times Christians can give the excuse that they were too busy, or were distracted by other things rather than spending time with God and developing a relationship with Him. Yet consider Noah. Why was Noah able to build the Ark? What gave him the faith needed to take God at His word and to do something everyone else thought was illogical? Noah gained strength and faith from spending time with God. He developed an intimate walk with God.

The greatest decision Noah made in his life wasn’t to build the Ark, but to spend time with God. Genesis 6:8 says, “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.” In spending time with God and walking with Him, Noah had displayed a spirit, an attitude, and a character that made him acceptable and well-pleasing to God. This spirit approved him for the most important of tasks at that time—the task to preserve the human race.

If Noah had not developed an intimate relationship with God, he would have never built the Ark. Building the Ark was simply the outflow of a walk with God, of his obedience to God. Noah was ready for his journey because he was in tune with God.

God wants to spend time with you. He wants you to come to Him each day and spend time with Him through His Word and through talking with Him. Just as Noah had to ignore all the distractions and temptations of his day, so you must also ignore the distractions of this world and choose to walk with God. God was only able to use Noah because he spent time with God each day.
