Mark 8:1-9; Matthew 15:32-16:4.

Jesus took a trip outside Jewish territory and ventured into Gentile territory. Jesus demonstrated His compassion for the Syrophonecian woman and also heals a def man with speech impediment. Jesus is healing and dealing with people that the Jews would have excluded.
Jesus does not exclude anybody.
Remember that the way to God is exclusive but it is open to everybody. God is willing that none should perish but they have to go through Jesus to receive salvation.
Nobody is excluded! Jesus did not hang out at the temple with the religious leaders, He hang out with tax collectors, prostitutes and sinners of all kinds. He touched lepers, He allowed Himself to be touched by an unclean female.
The very people that the religious crowd would leave out are the very ones Jesus was looking for.
This event is very similar to the feeding of the 5000. It is not however the same event repeated. Jesus Himself speaks of the two events in 8:19-20 and the parallel in Matthew.
There are similarities and there are differences.
How many times do we see an overwhelming situation. We say there is nothing we can do about that and we simply move on. Thinking somebody else can deal with that. But sometimes out little can be a lot. The Texas hurricane relief, Shoebox ministry, food bags, Lottie moon offerings etc.

# 105 Jesus feeds the four thousand.

Mark 8:1 KJV
1 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,
Mark 8:2 KJV
2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
Thank God for the compassion on Jesus. It is His compassion for us that sent Him to the cross.
Mark 8:3 KJV
3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.
Jesus cared about these people and He was not simply going to walk away and leave them to fend for themselves.
James 2:14–20 KJV
14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
Mark 8:4 KJV
4 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
The Disciples knew there was nothing they could do.
Mark 8:5 KJV
5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
Somebody was willing to give what they had. probably at great sacrifice.
Mark 8:6 KJV
6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.
Here He has the people sit down, nothing about grass and he did not divide into groups like the feeding of the 5000. he also doe not say the jewish blessing over the food but gives thanks instead.
Jesus broke the bread much like He will do later at the last supper. This is also a picture of the manna in the wilderness and a reminder that Jesus said he is the bread of life.
Jesus could of handed the bread out Himself. He chose to allow the Disciples to give the people the bread. God does not need us. He chooses to let us be a part of what He is doing.
When God saved you and me, He was essentially giving us the bread of life to hand out to others.
We are all bread passers. We are to serve our fellow man the bread of the gospel of Jesus Christ. it is not something that we are to keep for ourselves. Jesus gives us all that we could possibly need and then enough extra to give to others as we will see a little later.
Mark 8:7 KJV
7 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
He done the same thing with the fish.
Mark 8:8 KJV
8 So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.
Notice there was plenty of extra. These were big baskets. the same greek word is used to describe the basket that Paul was lowered in in Acts 9:25.
They had more than enough to share.
Mark 8:9 KJV
9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
Jesus sent them away with all of their needs met.
Mark 8:10 KJV
10 And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
We will move to Matthew 16 for this next portion.

#106 The Religious leaders ask for a sign from the sky.

Matthew 15:39 KJV
39 And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.
Matthew 16:1 KJV
1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.
1 Corinthians 1:22 KJV
22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
The signs of Moses.
Romans 10:17 KJV
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Matthew 16:2 KJV
2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
Pink sky at night, sailors’s delight. Pink sky in the morning, sailors take warning.
Matthew 16:3 KJV
3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
Matthew 16:4 KJV
4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
The religious leaders wanted a sign for God to confirm that Jesus is who he said he was. More than enough signs had already been given. They had already made up their minds. No matter what happened, they were not going to believe in Jesus.
The devil wanted to test Jesus in the wilderness and now the religious leaders were still doing the same.
Jesus ultimately did give them the sign of Jonah. The resurrection of Jesus is the most widely attested miracle that Jesus performed. Over 500 witnesses. They still rejected jesus and are still rejecting their Messiah to this day.
But the day is fast approaching when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord.
Application:
We are vessels of the compassion of Jesus. He gave us all we need with much left over to share with others. lets be about doing the Father's business. we need to be handing out the bread of life.
Many things are too big for us to handle but nothing is too big for God to handle. Just be willing to do your part and then watch in awe as God takes our little and turns it into a lot.
