Today we are going to talk about Sin

Sin is something we must always be aware of.
In our lives
In our relationships
In our ministries

Jesus taught on sin and how to handle it

Matthew 18:1-6 - Humility to submit to the teachings of Scripture

Point: The teaching of Scripture requires us to humbly submit to them

We must become like children in that we must view ourselves as children who submit to a parent.
We are the children and God is the parent
He gives the commands and we submit to them

Those who teach are held responsible by how they lead their “children” (v.6)

I must teach and command all of you to follow the commands of Christ - and I will be held accountable for how I lead and teach you all.

Matthew 18:7-9 - Just how bad is sin?

God would rather you go through life never being able to walk than persist in sin
God would rather me never be able to run my fingers through my wife’s hair again than to persist in sin
God would rather me never be able to see again than persist in sin

Point: God takes sin seriously

Matthew 18:10-14 - The Lost Sheep

When we sin and wander, God brings us back
He leaves the 99 to get the 1
Leaving the 99 is not a comfortable thing which is what is outlined in the next passage

Matthew 18:15-20 - Correcting Sin

The steps of confronting sin
The purpose of these steps is Restoration of the person
That we may bring them back into the sheep pen

A word from Paul - 1 Corinthians 5

Verses 7-13: A little sin that runs rampent will ruin the entire ministry
