We are continuing our series this morning Titled Waiting on God - Patience while waiting for the promise.
Waiting on God to act or trusting His promises can be challenging. Sometimes we feel the need to take matters into our own hands, but the Bible shows us this doesn’t work out well. During this series we will be looking at four times when people took matters into their own hands rather than waiting on God—and the fallout from those decisions.
We have look to two different times that people have take that God has told them in their own hands. Week one we saw how Abraham and Sarah came up with this plan where she would give here servant to Abraham. This almost distoryed Sarah. She thought God did not love her enough to include her in his plans. THey were not patient in waiting on God. Unlike Sarah and Abraham we must not take matter into our own hand or thing could fall apart. Instead you must have patience. While waiting on God.
Last week we saw how the Israelites where so impatient with God that they thought Moses had died. In fact he had only be gone for 40 day and night. The Israelites ask Arron to build them an alter to worship. This gold calf became their god. They forgot so fast who God was and what he had done for them. Just like the Israelites impatience with God can lead to idolatry.
This week we will be look at story for the Israelites but this time we will be looking at a different person.
So if you have your bible go head and turn to Numbers 20:2–13. If not you can follow along on the screen in a few moments.
Before we look at today passage Like always I have a question for you. So think for a moment.

Who do you trust in?

Friends, Family, loved one, Boss, Coworker. Who would you put trust into helping you finish a job. Who would you not trust? When you do not trust someone do you just take matters into your on hand and do the job?
What about God do you trust him? Do you trust that he will ask on is promises? Do you trust that he as the best for you? Lets take a look at someone that lost the trust of what God can do and took matter into his hands.
Numbers 20:2–13 CSB
2 There was no water for the community, so they assembled against Moses and Aaron. 3 The people quarreled with Moses and said, “If only we had perished when our brothers perished before the Lord. 4 Why have you brought the Lord’s assembly into this wilderness for us and our livestock to die here? 5 Why have you led us up from Egypt to bring us to this evil place? It’s not a place of grain, figs, vines, and pomegranates, and there is no water to drink!” 6 Then Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the doorway of the tent of meeting. They fell facedown, and the glory of the Lord appeared to them. 7 The Lord spoke to Moses, 8 “Take the staff and assemble the community. You and your brother Aaron are to speak to the rock while they watch, and it will yield its water. You will bring out water for them from the rock and provide drink for the community and their livestock.” 9 So Moses took the staff from the Lord’s presence just as he had commanded him. 10 Moses and Aaron summoned the assembly in front of the rock, and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels! Must we bring water out of this rock for you?” 11 Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff, so that abundant water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank. 12 But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me to demonstrate my holiness in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this assembly into the land I have given them.” 13 These are the Waters of Meribah, where the Israelites quarreled with the Lord, and he demonstrated his holiness to them.

The problem

Everything always starts with a problem. Israelite had be work/ wandering in the desert for many years. They would set up came periodically and the move again. A desert is a desert for a reason. There is not a lot of rainfall throughout the year.
We have it pretty easy just walk up to a sink and turn the water on to get water. That the case then. There was no plumbing and with a large group of people they would need a lot of water to help survive.
How long can you go without water? about 3 days.
This problem is something everyone was dealing with. The Israelites started to get anger with Moses for bring them here. They call the place evil.

Moses and Aaron deal with the problem

they turn to pray. They go the tent of meeting the place were worship happened start praying. This show that Moses and Aaron really want the best for the people but it can easily slip from being being faithful to taking matters into our own hands.
It isn’t the Israelites who take matters into their own hands this time; it’s Moses.

Moses does his own thing

God gives Moses very specific instructions and promises that water will come forth for the people (v. 8). So Moses assembles Israel before the rock but deviates from God’s commands. Moses gives the appearance that he is the one making the rock produce water, reinforced by him striking the rock twice (vv. 10– 11).
It is a subtle moment, but this is Moses taking matters into his own hands. God tells Moses afterward that his actions were showed a lack of faith. As a result, God informs Moses he will not lead the people into the promised land (v. 12). As before, God is merciful and lets Moses see the land, even though he may not enter it.

When you don’t trust God to act, you will act without God.

Do you trust God so completely that you can hold off from doing something, even if it’s right there in front of you?
