Have you ever seen one of these? Where have you seen one? On a ship or boat. At the pool.
What is for?
It is used to save people who are in the water from drowning.
So you are stand at the pool’s edge and you see someone in trouble, what do you do? Right. You toss them the life preserver. Or if they are too small, too little, what might you do? You might jump in with the life preserver and put it around them.
If there was a rope attached, you could throw it to them, they can grab on to it, and you can pull them to the edge of the pool and lift them to safety.
In our message today, we’re talking about the Church is the ship that God has placed in the world, to rescue people who are drowning in sin and need to be rescued by Jesus. Jesus is the life preserver,
because only Jesus saves.
The Apostle Paul calls Jesus our rescuer who saves us.
Galatians 1:4 (NIV) 4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,
Colossians 1:13 (NIV) 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,
1 Thessalonians 1:10 (NIV) 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead--Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
Jesus is our life preserver. He saves us from our sins. He saves us from God’s wrath. He saves us to brings us into the Kingdom.
Now, once Jesus saves you, Jesus asks you to join him on His mission to rescue the lost.
I made this Life Preserver to take with you today, to remind you that Jesus is the rescuer and carry him with you everywhere you go and when you find someone who doesn’t know Jesus, throw them the life preserver, Jesus.
Let’s pray.
Thank you God, for sending Jesus. Thank you, Jesus, for rescuing me, from my sins. And bringing me, into your church. Holy Spirit, help me to stay, in Your church, and be a part of, your team, to rescue others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
