What is God saying to you?
It is Important!!!
No matter what your journey has been these past several years— remember:
THIS IS A DIFFERENT YEAR,
BUT IT’S “THE SAME GOD”
THUS WE CREATED A SERIES CALLED “SAME GOD”!
The series was Crafted after a song sung by Elevation Worship and written by Brandon Lake, Chris Brown, Pat Barrett, and Steven Furtick.
Four lines give us our points:
Thus, in this series we have—
“…Called on the God of Jacob,
our Faithful God
God is still Faithful today
we have said, “we have”—
“…Called on the God of Moses,
our Father Provider and
our Father Gardener pruning us with love and Providing our every need
God is still Providing today
we have said, “we have”—
“…Called on the God of Mary,
our God who establishes order in the midst of our chaotic world.
our God who loved us so much he sent his son to save us, redeem us and restore our lives.
today we are—
“…Calling on the God of David,
Who made a shepherd boy courageous
I may not face Goliath
But I've got my own giants
We can talk about victory and strength, but first let’s look at David’s character that drove him to be a Giant Slayer!
He was a Sheep herder
he cared for his fathers sheep
David’s life as a shepherd continued to play a role after he left the pasture. Much of what he learned leading sheep he applied as
a leader of men,
in guarding the flock,
how he depended upon God,
ability to fight Goliath (1 Sam. 17:34–37).
David’s experiences as a shepherd also found their way into his poetry, providing rich imagery for many of his most beloved psalms, including Psalm 23.
Psalm 23 NLT
A psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. 2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. 3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. 4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. 5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. 6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.
David knew the constant care needed to be a good shepherd and thus it provided a rich metaphor for God’s constant care for him in Psalm 23.
He was a musician and song writer
played a lyre so well that the king asked him to play for him when he was tormented
1 Samuel 16:23 NLT
23 And whenever the tormenting spirit from God troubled Saul, David would play the harp. Then Saul would feel better, and the tormenting spirit would go away.
He wrote songs that have been sang from generation to generations.
Out of the 150 Psalms it is known that David wrote 73 of them
History says that he may have wrote as many as 4000 songs.
He repented of sin: lust, adultery, deception, murder and then was Called a Man after God’s own heart. 1 Sam 13:14
1 Samuel 13:14 NLT
14 But now your kingdom must end, for the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart. The Lord has already appointed him to be the leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.”
David was a Kind King just like our God is a KIND GOD!!
thus we see David show unusual kindness to those who relatives had treated him harshly.
2 Samuel 9:1–13 NLT
1 One day David asked, “Is anyone in Saul’s family still alive—anyone to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” 2 He summoned a man named Ziba, who had been one of Saul’s servants. “Are you Ziba?” the king asked. “Yes sir, I am,” Ziba replied. 3 The king then asked him, “Is anyone still alive from Saul’s family? If so, I want to show God’s kindness to them.” Ziba replied, “Yes, one of Jonathan’s sons is still alive. He is crippled in both feet.” 4 “Where is he?” the king asked. “In Lo-debar,” Ziba told him, “at the home of Makir son of Ammiel.” 5 So David sent for him and brought him from Makir’s home. 6 His name was Mephibosheth; he was Jonathan’s son and Saul’s grandson. When he came to David, he bowed low to the ground in deep respect. David said, “Greetings, Mephibosheth.” Mephibosheth replied, “I am your servant.” 7 “Don’t be afraid!” David said. “I intend to show kindness to you because of my promise to your father, Jonathan. I will give you all the property that once belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will eat here with me at the king’s table!” 8 Mephibosheth bowed respectfully and exclaimed, “Who is your servant, that you should show such kindness to a dead dog like me?” 9 Then the king summoned Saul’s servant Ziba and said, “I have given your master’s grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family. 10 You and your sons and servants are to farm the land for him to produce food for your master’s household. But Mephibosheth, your master’s grandson, will eat here at my table.” (Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.) 11 Ziba replied, “Yes, my lord the king; I am your servant, and I will do all that you have commanded.” And from that time on, Mephibosheth ate regularly at David’s table, like one of the king’s own sons. 12 Mephibosheth had a young son named Mica. From then on, all the members of Ziba’s household were Mephibosheth’s servants. 13 And Mephibosheth, who was crippled in both feet, lived in Jerusalem and ate regularly at the king’s table.
We are Spiritual Cripples
that is who we were “Cripples” from our sin-filled nature.
Examples:
Jesus Heals the paralytic in Bethesda
Luke 5:23–25 NLT
23 Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and walk’? 24 So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” 25 And immediately, as everyone watched, the man jumped up, picked up his mat, and went home praising God.
Peter Heals a Lame Beggar (Acts 3)
Acts 3:6–10 NLT
6 But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” 7 Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. 8 He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them. 9 All the people saw him walking and heard him praising God. 10 When they realized he was the lame beggar they had seen so often at the Beautiful Gate, they were absolutely astounded!
We were hobbling down life’s road till Jesus set us free.
Ephesians 2:1–3 NLT
1 Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.
LIKE DAVID JESUS BROUGHT US INTO HIS KINGDOM
Jesus gave us access
Hebrews 10:11–14 NLT
11 Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins. 12 But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 13 There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet. 14 For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.
Jesus gave us his banqueting table
Hebrews 10:19–25 (NLT)
19 And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20 By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21 And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, 22 let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.
Jesus gave us a future cause he is a KIND GOD.
23 Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Closing

Who are you calling on Today?
How are you leading people by your witness Today?
Jesus has dealt with your Crippling life, yet we must walk out this Journey with “fear and Trembling”.
Philippians 2:12 TPT
12 My beloved ones, just like you’ve always listened to everything I’ve taught you in the past, I’m asking you now to keep following my instructions as though I were right there with you. Now you must continue to make this new life fully manifested as you live in the holy awe of God—which brings you trembling into his presence.
Amen
