Identity

We learned in V 49 that Jesus at the age of 12 knew His Identity
Knew He was the Son of God
and His mission was to be doing His Fathers Business
He was in the temple when Mary and Joseph found Him
Jesus did not understand why they were looking all over for Him
when the only place he should be is in the temple
They did not understand why Jesus was not like the rest of the 12 year old’s
V 50
V 51 this we will concentrate on today
Jesus was submissive
knowing He was The Son of God
the knowledge to be on His own
Jesus was submissive the perfect child
Knowing that Mary and Joseph were his human parents
Jesus was all human, het all God at the same time
Jesus did what a normal human is supposed to do
Exodus 20:12 LSB
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which Yahweh your God gives you.
and Jesus fulfilled the law perfectly
Jesus became the man of the family
He was known as the town carpenter
Mark 6:3 LSB
“Is this man not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?” And they were taking offense at Him.
Jesus was a submissive son for another 18 years
to His earthly parents and his Heavenly Father

The Submissiveness of God

Jesus one of the Trinity
Father Son and Holy Spirit
one being but three persons don’t try to understand it just believe it
God is God His ways His thoughts are far above ours
don’t try to understand the God head in anything earthly
like water, egg just take it at what the Bible says about God
The Father is God Almighty
The Son is equal to the Father
the son and Father are one
John 14:8–10 LSB
Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all so long and have you not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak from Myself, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.
Psalm 110:1 LSB
Yahweh says to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand Until I put Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet.”
God speaking to God
The Holy Spirit is also one with the Father and Son
all 3 are equal because all 3 are one
but all 3 have different roles
lets take the salvation of the bride
The Fathers role
to chose the bride
Acts 2:39 LSB
“For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.”
Ephesians 1:4 LSB
just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him in love,
The Sons role
to redeem the bride
1 Peter 1:1–2 LSB
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who reside as exiles, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, who are chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to the obedience of Jesus Christ and the sprinkling of His blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.
Ephesians 1:7 LSB
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our transgressions, according to the riches of His grace
The Holy Spirits role
to Sanctify the bride
to set her apart
John 3:5–8 LSB
Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. “That which has been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit. “Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ “The wind blows where it wishes and you hear its sound, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who has been born of the Spirit.”
the trinity has different roles
1 Peter 1:1–2 (LSB)
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who reside as exiles, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, who are chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to the obedience of Jesus Christ and the sprinkling of His blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.
all of the roles are under the Father
the Son is in subjection to the father
not out of duty but out of love
turn to Isaiah 53.
the only way for His Son to have a bride is for the Father to crush the Son
God out of Love for his Son crushed Him once so that He could have a bride to love for an eternity
the Holy spirit is in subjection to the Father and Son

Our Submissiveness

we are told to be submissive to our parents
to our husbands
to our masters
to our leaders in government
to the church to one another
to the leadership
to God resist the devil
submissiveness is not a controlling thing
submissiveness is out of love
submissiveness is a response to love
the love of God to us
God gave us the example
submissiveness is a choice, a conscious decision
we just don’t automatically submit
it goes against human nature
in fact we don’t want to submit
its unnatural in our fallen nature
we have a bent toward sin
the 3 most important persons in our life is me myself and I
to submit is to put someone else first
God isn’t trying to control you, which he can do
you submit because I told you to
but you and the person you submit to will be blessed
because there is no strife
no hostility
your love will increase
your relationship will grow
so God has given us the example
God has commanded us to do
we know we will have better lives if we do
but either me myself or I is opposed to submission
what do you do?
Grace!!
we need grace
we need to ask for forgiveness
ask God for the grace to repent
Humbly come before the Lord and ask for the grace to be submissive in the area that you are lacking in
pour out your heart to God
tell Him why you are not submissive
