STREET PREACHING - MESSAGE STRUCTURE

OVERVIEW

4 Parts: (Rapport/Story/Gospel/Altar call)
Introduction - Building RAPPORT
A Bible Reference
Telling a STORY
Presenting the GOSPEL
Altar Call & Salvation Prayer

I. INTRODUCTION - BUILDING RAPPORT

Why build rapport? To gain attention, to build rapport with listeners - Icebreakers - Asking Questions
Introduce yourself
Build rapport, by telling them about their village or city, your journey, their food, etc.
You need to build rapport throughout your whole sermon: Cultural reference, Asking questions, etc.
Say something good about the city/area. Connect through sports, similar. Address a current issue in that region (i.e. death of Queen, War in Ukraine, etc.)
Address the Elephant in the Room (accent, etc.)
Pay attention to churchy expressions at the beginning
You might want to say something surprising or shocking (not offensive) like : I am in love with a Man (The Lord Jesus)
Make a Bridge between Introduction and the story:

II. THE WORD OF GOD IS THE FOUNDATION OF OUR SERMON

Always use one Bible verse as the foundation of your sermon. The Scripture is our foundation.
Mat 24:35 “35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” /// Matthew 24:35 “Le ciel et la terre passeront, mais mes paroles ne passeront jamais.”
Use the expression “The Word of God says” instead of the “The Bible says”. You want them to be with you as long as possible.
Mark 7:13 “13 making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.””
Not a condemning Word. Your Scripture has to go with your story.
Examples of Scripture references:
Mat 22:37 “37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’” /// Mat 22:37 “Jésus lui répondit : Tu aimeras le Seigneur, ton Dieu, de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme et de toute ta pensée.”
Deut 30:19 “19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;” /// Deut 30:19 “19 Je prends aujourd’hui le ciel et la terre à témoins : je vous offre le choix entre la vie et la mort, entre la bénédiction et la malédiction. Choisissez donc la vie, afin que vous viviez, vous et vos descendants.”
Rom 5:8 “8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” ///
Luke 19:10 “10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”” /// Luke 19:10 “10 Car le Fils de l’homme est venu chercher et sauver ce qui était perdu.”

III. STORY TELLING

We tell a story because JESUS told stories – biblical model
Two possible stories now – make it YOURS.
Little boat story
Redeem story
Butterfly story
Present them INTERESTING, deadly sin of evangelist is to be boring
IF YOU THINK YOU ARE TOO MUCH, YOU ARE JUST RIGHT!
Great stories are great because you become the person in that story
Great stories should be
unpredictable, to be interesting
emotional!
Not too many details. The Longer the story, the better the payoff has to be
Vivid, memorable
Brief and profound
MOST IMPORTANT IS THE PUNCHLINE
Careful with choosing story.
HOW TO TELL THE STORY?
Be Full of Energy from Beginning to the end! That doesn’t mean loud!
When Kids: make them repeat it, use people and translators as props
Tell Story full of energy – not longer than 8 minutes
Give Explanation of the Story – what is the boat, what is the birdcage, who is who?
Not too many details – unnecessary, takes away from the message
Hold attention
Actual Gospel content of the message. ABC’s of Gospel
Pregnant Pause

IV. PRESENTING THE GOSPEL

Gospel application to the story – unpack the Story with the Gospel!
Three parts = PROBLEM, SOLUTION, DECISION
PROBLEM
Who is who in the story?
What do the actions mean? Explain Boat, Boy, Wind / Birds, Cage, boy and Pastor
What is the Problem? WE ARE ALL SINNERS – Romans 8, 1-2 and cannot save ourselves. We need a Saviour!
How does it relate to you and me?
SOLUTION
GOSPEL – Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection
Actual Gospel content of the message. ABC’s of Gospel = Sin and Salvation, Heaven and Hell, Repentance and faith.
Make one point over and over again – like a sledge hammer – bringing the SAME POINT! Make it simpler and more streamlined and sharper
BIBLE REFERENCES
Rom 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” ///
Rom 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” ///
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” ///
Rom 5:8 “8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” ///
Rom 10:13 “13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”” ///

V. ALTAR CALL & SALVATION PRAYER

DECISION – give them the CHOICE to make the decision NOW
Altar Call is a call to action! It is the GOAL of every message! Take the Altar Call as a separate Sermon –
The Altar Call could have own story, action, relate back to what has been there before.
URGENCY: Be even more intense.
Present people with the fact they have to make a decision! Everybody in the room shall respond physically! Being on the fence is making a decision.

SALVATION PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to you now. A SINNER NEEDING SALVATION
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I CANNOT SAVE MYSELF.
But I give my life to you. And I REPENT FROM MY SINS.
Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God,
SAVE ME NOW.
WASH ME IN YOUR PRECIOUS BLOOD.
Be my SAVIOR / LORD / BEST FRIEND.
I GIVE 100% OF MY LIFE
As of this moment: I BELONG TO JESUS AND JESUS BELONGS TO ME.
I BELIEVE IT. I RECEIVE IT. I CONFESS IT.
In the Name of Jesus. AMEN
Seigneur Jésus Christ, Je viens devant Toi en cet instant. EN TANT QUE PÉCHEUR. QUI A BESOIN D'ÊTRE SAUVÉ
Seigneur Jésus Christ, JE NE PEUX PAS ME SAUVER MOI-MÊME.
Mais je te remet entièrement ma vie. Je CHOISI DE ME DÉTOURNER DE MES PÉCHÉS et DE TE SUIVRE JUSQU'À LA FIN DE MES JOURS.
Seigneur Jesus Christ, Fils du Dieu Vivant, J'invoque ton Nom
PARDONNE-MOI TOUS MES PÉCHÉS. LAVE-MOI DANS TON SANG PRÉCIEUX.
SAUVE-MOI MAINTENANT. Sois mon SAUVEUR / SEIGNEUR / MEILLEUR AMI.
À partir de MAINTENANT: J'APPARTIENT À JÉSUS ET JÉSUS EST À MOI.
JE LE CROIS. JE LE REÇOIS. JE LE CONFESSE.
Au Nom de Jesus. AMEN
