Title: The Glory of Jesus
Text: Hebrews 1:1-3
Introduction: The British minister, W. E. Sangster, began to lose his voice and mobility in the mid-1950s. He had a disease that caused progressive muscular atrophy. He recognized the end was near, so he threw himself into writing and praying. In the midst of his suffering he pleaded, “Let me stay in the struggle, Lord. I don’t mind if I can no longer be a general, but give me just a regiment to lead.”
Sangster’s voice eventually failed completely, and his legs became useless. On Easter morning just a few weeks before his death, he took a pen and shakily wrote his daughter a letter. In it he said, “It is terrible to wake up on Easter morning and have no voice with which to shout, ‘He is risen!’—but it would be still more terrible to have a voice and not want to shout at all.”
How many of us truly want to praise Jesus this morning for all He has done? Now you may not jump to your feet and shout at the top of your lungs, you know we are Baptist after all but praise for the glorious One “Jesus” should resonate in our hearts and effect our attitude and actions after all the King of kings and Lord of lords has visited earth for the purpose of calling each of us into fellowship with Him.
CPS: I think our problem with praising Jesus or lack thereof is a problem with our view of Jesus and His glory, we must have a high view of Jesus and set Him in our hearts, minds, imagination, and actions as the glorious one to whom all praise is due! This morning I will state three reasons why we should praise Him!
We praise Jesus because He is the Revelation of God to the World. 1-2A
Spoke through the Prophets (God’s will be concealed)
Spoke through the Son (God’s will be revealed)
Jesus is the fulfillment of all the promises of God spoken through His servants but for the proclamation of His last Word to mankind He has chosen His Son.
We praise Jesus because He is the Creator and Sustainer of the World 2b-3A
Creator (Heb. 11:3)
Sustainer
We praise Jesus because He is the Savior of the World 3B
Purging Work - Sacrifice on Earth
Finished Work – Seated in the place of Honor
Conclusion: We praise Jesus because He is worthy of our praise, He is higher and far superior to all created things. All honor, praise, allegiance, and duty belong to Him the King Priest. MAY WE THROW EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD AWAY AND EMBRACE HIM!
