Luke 6:24-26

Theme: The Lordship of Christ
Key verse: v.7
49 verses; 1229 words
Grade level: 4.4
Outline
I. The Controversies on the Sabbaths. Verses 1-11
II. The Choice of His Servants. Verses 12-19
III. The Challenge of His Sermon. Verses 20-49
Jesus knew the horrors of a lost eternity and the dreadful doom of the damned. No wonder Jesus wept:
For a lost loved one (John 11:33, 35)
For a lost city (Luke 19:41–44)
For a lost world (Luke 22:41–45).
Here are Four PROBLEMS of people.

I. The Problem of Possessions. v.24

The world does not warn of riches.
But woe unto you that are rich!
It is not a sin to be wealthy unless sin has made you wealthy.
Some of the greatest servants of the Lord the world has ever known have been very, wealthy people and they earned their money honestly and have honored the Lord in the use of it.
Abraham was rich.
Nicodemus was rich.
Joseph of Arimathaea was rich.
Lydia was rich.
They did not let their finances stand in the way of their friendship with God.
You have friends as long as you buy.
for ye have received your consolation.
Riches often bring the opposite of what people expect.
They think wealth will bring delight but it often brings destruction.
They think possessions will bring satisfaction but they often sadness.
1 Timothy 6:9–10 (KJV)
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

II. The Problem of Plenty. v.25a

No room for spiritual things.
Woe unto you that are full!
The rich man was full (Luke 16:19-31).
Esau was full (Hebrews 12:16-17).
The time will come when you regret your carnality.
for ye shall hunger.

III. The Problem of Playing. v.25b

What is the cause of your laughter?
Woe unto you that laugh now!
Those who take pleasure in perversion.
They find thrills in things that are twisted.
They find fun in filth.
They delight in things that are dirty.
Sinful thinking and sinful talking are the things that make them smile.
What will make you weep? If you don’t know, one day you will.
for ye shall mourn and weep.
A person’s spiritual condition is revealed by the things that make him laugh.
The state of the soul is seen by the things that give him joy.
Jesus told His audience that those who are caught up in the godless merriment of men will find one day that their tears will never stop.
Here are Four PROBLEMS of people.

II. The Problem of Plenty. v.25a
III. The Problem of Playing. v.25b

IV. The Problem of Praise. v.26

The character of the compromisers.
Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you!
There are two reasons we ought to be afraid when everybody speaks well of us.
Popular approval leads to pride.
Popular approval looks to performance.
The company of the compromisers.
for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
Compromisers seek three things:
Acceptance
Approval.
Association.

Conclusion:

What kind of problems do you have?
Devil problems?
God problems?
