Introduction
Opening Passage: Mt 5:23-24
Matthew 5:23–24 KJV
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; 24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Outline
Relationships Involving Hurt (Mt 5:23-24)
Are you coming to worship with unfinished business - ‘...Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee...’
Do you need to go take care of your business and find reconciliation - ‘...Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother...’
Are you ready for worship - ‘…and then come and offer thy gift...’
Relationships Involving a Need for Forgiveness (Mt 6:14-15)
Matthew 6:14–15 KJV
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Do you have bitterness weighing down your walk with God - ‘…if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you...’
Are you letting pride override your humility
Too many have lost the concept of humility and embraced pride. May we be reminded of the outcomes of pride.
The outcomes of pride are really simple. With pride one finds rejection from God. As James writes, But He gives a greater grace. Therefore, I says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (Jm 4:6). Secondly, pride will always end in destruction. As Solomon wrote, Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling (Pr 16:18).
Do you want to be forgiven…Then learn to forgive - ‘…But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses...’
Relationships that are Improper (Mt 5:27-28)
Matthew 5:27–28 KJV
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Are you committing a physical affair - ‘Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery...’
Are you committing a mental affair - ‘…But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart...’
Are you committing an emotional affair
Work husband/wife
Emotionally connected beyond the surface
