Two is better than one
Opening Prayer
Recap
What it is not… meditation or passive reflection
Prayer is also not away force God to do anything He hasn’t already wanted to do
What it is…Firstly it is one of three pillars of Christianity - The word of God, Fellowship, and Prayer
More specifically, it is the Intentional, Relational communication with God - It is communication of the human soul with the Lord who created it.
It is the primary way for the believer in Jesus Christ to communicate his emotions and desires with God and to fellowship with God.
Why Two by Two
Mark 6:7 “And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;”
A part of the reason was a fulfillment of old testament law as it pertained to witness proclaiming the Kingdom of God
Deut 19:15 “One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.”
Another reason could be the power of shared ministry, the added impact when two or more people work together toward a shared goal
Co-laboring is not only effective and efficient, but reflective of the theological nature of ministry in the era of the new covenant.
When Jesus sent them out two by two it was to become a hallmark of of the spirit-filled church
Restoration
Matthew 18:15-17 “Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.”
Restore Greek word (Katartizo) - to render, i.e. to fit, sound, complete
to mend (what has been broken or rent), to repair
Mark 11:25 “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
Touching and agreeing
Matthew 18:18-20 “Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
Quote from Lewis B. Smedes “To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.”
