COMMUNION SERVICE

THE COMMUNION CEREMONY HAS ROOTS THAT GO ALL THE WAY  BACK TO THE JEWISH EXODUS FROM EGYPT.

WHERE GOD TOLD EVERY JEWISH FAMILY TO TAKE A PERFECT LAMB,

A LAMB WITHOUT BLEMISH, AND TO SACRIFICE IT.

HE TOLD THEM TO TAKE THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB AND SMEAR IT OVER THE DOOR FRAME OF THEIR HOUSE,

SO THAT WHEN THE DEATH ANGEL CAME TO EGYPT THAT NIGHT, HE WILL SEE THE BLOOD AND PASSOVER THEIR HOUSE.

TODAY WE'RE LOOKING AT A PASSOVER CELEBRATION THAT TOOK PLACE MANY CENTURIES

AFTER THAT FIRST PASSOVER IN EGYPT.

NOW THE PERFECT LAMB OF GOD, IS ABOUT TO BE SACRIFICED FOR THE SINS OF THE WHOLE WORLD.

JESUS IS LOOKING AHEAD

HE'S LOOKING AT THE END OF THE WEEK WHEN HE WILL DIE ON A CROSS.

AND ANYONE WHO WILL ACCEPT HIS BLOOD.

WILL BE SAVED FROM AN ETERNAL DEATH IN HELL.

THE COMMUNION CEREMONY THAT JESUS INSTITUTED AT HIS LAST PASSOVER MEAL

IS A PRIVILEGE THAT IS OPEN TO EVERY TRUE CHRISTIAN BELIEVER.

1 Corinthians 11:23-30 (NIV)

23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you:

The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.

PRAY THE SINNERS PRAYER

Luke 22:14-20 (NIV)

14 When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. 15 And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”

17 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. 18 For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

802.  THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD'S SUPPER

THE LORD HIMSELF ORDAINED THIS HOLY SACRAMENT.

HE COMMANDED HIS DISCIPLES TO PARTAKE OF THE BREAD AND WINE,

EMBLEMS OF HIS BROKEN BODY AND SHED BLOOD.

THIS IS HIS TABLE.

THE FEAST IS FOR HIS DISCIPLES.

SO LET ALL THOSE WHO HAVE WITH TRUE REPENTANCE FORSAKEN THEIR SINS,

AND HAVE BELIEVED IN CHRIST UNTO SALVATION,

DRAW NEAR AND TAKE THESE EMBLEMS,

AND, BY FAITH, PARTAKE OF THE LIFE OF JESUS CHRIST,

TO YOUR SOUL'S COMFORT AND JOY.

LET US REMEMBER THAT THIS IS THE MEMORIAL OF THE DEATH AND PASSION OF OUR LORD;

AND THIS IS ALSO A TOKEN OF HIS COMING AGAIN.

LET US NOT FORGET THAT WE ARE ONE,

AND WE ARE ALL AT ONE TABLE WITH THE LORD.

PRAY:

THE PARTAKING:

WE ARE REMINDED THAT IN THE SAME NIGHT THAT OUR LORD WAS BETRAYED,

HE TOOK BREAD AND, WHEN HE HAD GIVEN THANKS,

HE BROKE IT AND GAVE IT TO HIS DISCIPLES, SAYING,

"THIS IS MY BODY GIVEN FOR YOU; DO THIS IN REMEMBERANCE OF ME."

LIKE WISE , AFTER SUPPER; HE TOOK THE CUP,

AND WHEN HE HAD GIVEN THANKS, HE GAVE IT TO THEM SAYING,

"THIS CUP IS THE NEW COVENANT IN MY BLOOD, WHICH IS POURED OUT FOR YOU;

DO THIS, WHENEVER YOU DRINK IT, IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.

CONCLUDING PRAYER:
