Perhaps Today Matthew 24:36-44

36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Dr. M.R. DE Haan, founder of RBC Ministries, kept a two- word motto in his office: “Perhaps Today!” When Jesus’ disciples asked Him about the date of His return. He told them that only God the Father knows! What words can more strongly describe the suddenness of our Savior’s coming! Men will be at their respective businesses, and suddenly the Lord of glory will appear. Women will be in their house, but in that moment every other work will be laid aside, and every heart will turn inward and say, it is the Lord! Am I prepared to meet him? Can I stand before him?

Matthew Henry said, “Our Lord’s coming will be happy to those that shall be found ready, but very dreadful to those that are not. Those who choose the world for their portion in this life will have hell for their portion in the other life.”

Matthew 24:37-39 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Think about the judgment in the day of Noah or in the day of Lot. Today we would call it catastrophic! No one left but Noah’s family! Sodom burned down!

Jesus said in Luke 17: 33-34 Remember Lot’s wife. 34Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. (She wouldn’t wait for God’s best.) She looked back!

Listen Luke 17: 33-34 TM Remember what happened to Lot’s wife! If you grasp and cling to life on your terms, you’ll lose it, but if you let that life go, you’ll get life on God’s terms.

As God’s people we can’t become slothful and careless! The Lord’s coming after the consistent and obedient!

We have to be like the lady that came home after church and found her house being burglarized. She yield at the thief stop Acts 2:38! (Repent and be baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins may be forgiven) The burglar stopped in his tracks. The woman calmly called the police and explained what she had done. As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the burglar: ’why did you just stand there? All the old lady did was yell a scripture to you.’’Scripture?’ replied the burglar. ’She said she had an Ax and Two 38s!’

Matthew 24:40-42 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.

Verse 42 Jesus says to watch! To watch means to maintain active, energetic, single-minded obedience to the Lord!

Matthew 24:43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.

Over a year ago, an article came out saying that millions of TV sets in the United States and through out the world wouldn’t work because they were unable to receive digital signals. The government has spent millions telling everyone to get a converter. However, when the date came for all to be ready still millions weren’t; therefore, the date has been extended! ( God will not bump-up His date!)

Why didn’t Jesus tell us when He was coming? Because all would wait, none would study and no one would love Him. None would prayer. And when He returned all would have hardened hearts because of lack!

Jesus said in Matthew 24:44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Luke 17:26-30 And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27 They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29 but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

Joke—a hypochondriac always complained about the illnesses he felt that he had...but it was imaginary. As he grew old and eventually died. He instructed the engraver to put on his headstone, “I told you I was sick!”

Jesus could say, “I told you I was coming!”

I believe Jesus is coming for this generation! Our Motto should change to “Perhaps Today!” Prayer.

(Joke) Lady catching Thief http://javacasa.com/humor/sermon.htm

Stop, Thief!
An elderly woman had just returned to her home from an evening of church services when she was startled by an intruder. She caught the man in the act of robbing her home of its valuables and yelled, "Stop! Acts 2:38!"

(Repent and be baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven.)

The burglar stopped in his tracks. The woman calmly called the police and explained what she had done. As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the burglar, "Why did you just stand there? All the old lady did was yell a scripture to you." "Scripture?" replied the burglar. "She said she had an ax and two 38's!" GAB in RN
