My Interpretation of the Scientific Theory of Evolution of the Universe from Genesis Cosmogony in the King James Version Text 1611

I will quote some statements from Genesis and follow them some explanatory remarks.

Gen. I,1-2:" (a) In the beginning (b) God (c) created the (d) heaven and the (e)earth. And the earth (f) was (g) without form and void; and *(h) darkness was upon the face of the (i) deep. And the Spirit of God (j) moved upon the face of the (k) waters."

15 TO 30 BILLION YEARS AGO: THE INITIAL EXPLOSION AND BEGINNING OF THE UNIVERSE ALSO KNOWN AS "THE BIG BANG"; 12 TO 11 BILLION YEARS AGO: ORIGIN OF THE OUR MILKY WAY GALAXY; 10 TO 5 BILLION YEARS AGO: CONTINUED EXPANSION OF GALAXIES; 5 TO 4.6 BILLION YEARS AGO: FORMATION OF OUR SOLAR SYSTEM AND SUN; 4.55 TO 4.5 BILLION YEARS AGO: FORMATION OF THE EARTH; 4.4 TO 4.2 BILLION YEARS AGO: FORMATION OF OUR MOON; PRIMITIVE OCEAN LIFE {PRE-CAMBRIAN} *APPROXIMATELY 4.1 TO 3.8 BILLION YEARS AGO: ORIGIN OF LIFE AND BEGINNING OF CHEMICAL EVOLUTION OR PROTO-LIFE I.E., SINGLE STRAND RNA MOLECULES; 3.8 TO 3.5 TO BILLION YEARS AGO: FORMATION OF OCEANS, OLDEST ROCKS KNOWN; VIRUSES AND GENES.

Modern scientists say that this was the condition of the earth when it was in its nebular state- "in the beginning."

The name which is most frequently used for the God of the Bible is Jehovah. Among the ancient Jews it was more nearly Jahw or Jahwe (Yahwe) or Jhoh. The ancient Jews considered the name so sacred that it was sacrilegious to pronounce it; the injunction (Exod. xx,7) "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain," was construed to mean, not to pronounce the name at all, so that the readers (cantors) in the Jewish synagogues always said "Adonai" when the written text was Yahwe. The name means "he who causes to be" or written "Creator." The vast majority of people will agree that "God" (whoever or whatever he may be) created the heaven and earth.

The "Waters" possibly mean "fluids," as this is claimed by some authorities to be a more correct translation; if so, this might be construed to refer to the earth when it had condensed from a nebular consistence to a liquid or molten condition, or when it was gaseous. Whatever we may understand by the "spirit of God," when matter had been assembled, force acted upon it, motion resulted and the earth commenced to rotate. The obloid shape of our globe proves that it rotated before it became figid solid.

Footnotes

(a) See The dateless past below.

(b) Heb. Elohim, Gods. Elohim is the word for God in Gen. 1:1 and in over 2,700 other places in the O.T. It is a uni-plural noun meaning Gods and is so trans.

(c) Heb. "Bara- to create", to bring into being.

(d) Heb. heaven, nearly always in the plural.

(e) Earth. Dry land (v 10).

(f) And is used 148 times in Gen. 1-2 to separate the 102 recorded independent acts of God. V 2 is as independent of v 1 as to time and subject matter as all the other separate acts of God. V 1 refers to the whole universe being created and inhabitated in the *dateless past, (i.e. 15 TO 30 BILLION YEARS AGO: THE INITIAL EXPLOSION AND BEGINNING OF THE UNIVERSE ALSO KNOWN AS "THE BIG BANG" AFTER THE EXPRESSION COINED BY BELGIAN ASTRONOMER GEORGE EDWARD LEMAITRE (1894-1966); 12 TO 11 BILLION YEARS AGO: THE FORMATION OF THE OUR MILKY WAY GALAXY; 10 TO 5 BILLION YEARS AGO: THE CONTINUED EXPANSION OF GALAXIES; 5 TO 4.6 BILLION YEARS AGO: THE FORMATION OF OUR SOLAR SYSTEM AND SUN; 4.55 TO 4.5 BILLION YEARS AGO: THE FORMATION OF THE EARTH; 4.4 TO 4.3 BILLION YEARS AGO: THE FORMATION OF OUR MOON; 3.8 TO 3.5 TO BILLION YEARS AGO: FORMATION OF OCEANS, OLDEST ROCKS KNOWN),

while v 2 refers of chaos on earth because of sin.

The dateless past V 1 is the introduction to the whole Bible and all history, for it marks the boundary between time and eternity. Job. 38:4-7 makes it clear that the heavens were created first else the stars could not have rejoiced when the earth created.

In the beginning, the dateless past, and not in 6 days or 6,000 years ago, God created the heavens, including the sun, moon, and stars- all the heavenly bodies in space. The heavens were created before the earth was. Cp. Job. 38:4-7.

We cannot say definitely how old the earth is because we do not know WHEN the beginning was. Gods creation of the heavens and the earth could have been millions and billions of years ago. If geologists can prove the age of the earth to be what they claim, we have no scriptural authority to disagree. They cannot contradict the Bible, for it does not reveal any time element in connection with the earth's original creation. Now this much is certain, according to Scipture, that the earth is more than 6,000 years old, and there were inhabitants on the earth before the days of Adam.

(g) Was. Heb. haya, became. Trans. became is used 67 times (Gen. 2:7; 19:26; 20:12; 24:67; etc.); becamest (Chr. 17:22; 16:8); came and came to pass 505 times (Gen. 14:1; 6:1,4; 11:2,5; etc.); become 66 times (Gen. 3:22; 18:18; 48:19; etc.); come to pass 131 times (Gen. 4:14; 6:13; 27:40; etc.); and be in the sense of become (Gen. 1:3,6,9,14; 3:5; etc.)

(h) Without. Heb. tohu va bohu, meaning waste and empty (Jer. 4:23). The earh was not created tohu in the beginning (Isa. 45:18), but became tohu because of sin.

The Heb. for void is bohu, empty, ruin, void. It is trans. void (v 2; Jer. 4:23); and emptiness (Isa. 34:11). The Heb. phrase tohu va bohu, waste and empty, describes the chaotic condition of the earth at the time it was cursed and made flooded because of the sins of Lucifer and the pre-Adamites. It could not refer to the earth as originally created- beautiful, perfect, dry land.

(i) Deep. Lucifer's flood, This flood was more devastating and lasted longer than Noah's flood, for it destroyed even vegetation, while the 1 year and 17 days of Noah's flood did not.

(j) Moved. Heb. rachaph, to brood, relax, flutter. Trans. fluttereth.

(k) Waters. In this verse we have the existence of earth, darkness, and waters before day 1.

Gen. I,3: "And (l) God said, (m) Let there (n) be light, and (o) there was (p) light."

4.55 TO 4.5 BILLION YEARS AGO: FORMATION OF THE EARTH.

The nebular mass in which the sun, earth, and all the planets were still undifferentiated glowed with a light consisting of only a few vibrations in the blue and green spectrum, but it was not the light of the sun. Later, when the earth had cooled so that the gaseous form had changed to liquid, this melted material glowed with light which had a perfect spectrum.

Footnotes

(l) God. God said, 10 times at the beginning of each day; 3rd day 2 times; 6th day 4 times (v 3,6,9,11,14,20,24,26,28,29)

(m) Let. Let is used 13 times in this chapter; 1,464 times else where, and in no case is an original creative act implied. The sense is made appear or made visible, expressing permission and purpose in connection with already existing things. The light, firmament, waters earth, darknessand all other things mentioned here were already in existence, but had been thrown into chaos and the laws which previously governed them had ben made void. The very purpose of their existence had been annulled because of sin. Now, in the restoration to perfection and original usefullness, God merely commands and the sun again gives light on this planet, as it had done all through Lucifer's kingdom (Jer. 4:23-26; 2 Pet. 3:5-8). Thus the light of days 1,2,&3 came from the sun as had been the case every day since. Cp. let Gen. 13:8; 18:4; 24:14-18; Mt. 7:4; 13:30; 27:22; Jn. 14:1; Phil. 2:5 for the true sense.

(n) Be. Become, not the verb to be Let there become light and there became light.

(o) There. Became, as noted above.

(p) Light. First appearance of light from the sun since God commanded the heavens to withold light from the earth causing the judgmement of v 2 (Jer. 4:23-26. Cp.2 Cor. 4:6)

Gen. I,4: " And (q) God saw the light, that it was (r) good." Gen. I,9,10: "And God said, Let the waters under the (s)heavens be gathered unto (t) one place and let dry land appear; and it was so."

PRIMITIVE OCEAN LIFE {PRE-CAMBRIAN ERA} APPROXIMATELY 4.1 TO 3.8 BILLION YEARS AGO: ORIGIN OF LIFE AND BEGINNING OF CHEMICAL EVOLUTION OR PROTO-LIFE I.E., SINGLE STRAND RNA MOLECULES; 3.8 TO 3.5 TO BILLION YEARS AGO: FORMATION OF OCEANS, OLDEST ROCKS KNOWN; VIRUSES AND GENES; 3.5 TO 3 BILLION YEARS AGO: PRIMORDIAL VIRUSES AND MICROSPHERES I.E., FIRST FUMBLING PROKARYOTES; 3 TO 1.9 BILLION YEARS AGO: FORMATION OF PROKARYOTIC CELLS; 1.9 TO 1.7 BILLION YEARS AGO: DATE OF OLDEST FOSSILS- {BACTERIA AND BLUE-GREEN ALGAE} APPOXIMATELY 1.7 TO 1.5 BILLION YEARS AGO: INVENTION OF DIFFERENTIATION OF THE SEXES, OR BY MICROORGANISMS.

It may be, that when the melted mass which became our globe began to cool, the scoriae or dross gathered gethered in a single sheet on the outside, just as the formation of crystals is apt to proceed from the first solid particle that occure in a solution. The materials of which these scoriae (crust)consisted were much lighter than the metals which constitute the anterior of our globe; the specific gravity of our earth is far greater than the specific gravity of any of our surface rocks.

This sheet of floating scoriae afterwards broke apart where the Alantic Ocean is now. When the melted matters underneath cooled off sufficiently for the globe to become rigid, this left the continents composed of the scoriae , elevated above the surface of the metal mass, because they were lighter. That they were originally one sheet of crust or scoriae appears from the fact that the eastern edge of western continent of South America fits into the western edge of the eastern continent of Africa. Between these elevated masses of crust were the depressions in which the waters gathered when the earth had become sufficiently cool to allow the waters to remain.

The earth had cooled sufficiently for the first solid land to appear; and the vast amount of water which had been in the atmosphere in the form of clouds was precipitated in torrents, gathered tohether in the depressions to form the oceans.

Footnotes

(q) God. God saw, 7 times (v 4,10,12,18,21,25,31).

(r) Good. Beautiful (Eccl. 3:11). Used 7 times (v 4,10,12,18,21,25,31). Cp. one thing not good (2:18).

*(s) Heavens. Note that in day 2 of the waters were placed in the clouds to give rain upon the earth (v 6-8; Job. 38:4-30); Amos. 5:8; 9:6). Now the rest are commanded to return to the bowels of the earth, to river beds and low places of the earth created for them and where they were before being commanded to assist in causing the flood of Gen 1:2 Cp. 7:11; 8:2; Ps. 104:8. Earth (dry land) then, could immediately appear as before when it was originally created and inhabitated (1:1,9; Isa. 45:18).

Gen. I,11: "And God said, Let (t) the earth bring forth grass, and herb yielding after his kind, and tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is itself, upon the earth, and it was so."

1.5 TO 1.3 BILLION YEAR AGO: OLDEST FOSSIL PHOTOSYNTHETIC PLANTS.

The main difference between plants and animals is that plants can assimilate inorganic food, animals can not. Plants therefore had to appear before animals could live. Moreover, the atmosphere must at first have contained too much carbon dioxide to allow respiration by animals, and carbon dioxide was food for plants. This process of oxygenation of Earth's early atmosphere may have proceeded for a period of 2 billion years before virtually all the carbon dioxide was gone and the process came to a halt. The rate of oxygenation speeded up and was essentially complete about 650 million years or so ago.

But this verse is of great importance otherwise; it says "Let the earth bring forth." This justifies the theory of evolution which is merely an effort to explain "how the earth produced." The word "earth" does not here mean soil, but the terrestrial globe; plants in the water, algae, etc., grew as well as plants on the dry land.

Footnotes

(t) 3 distinct kinds of vegetation: the grass; the herbs; the trees.

Gen. I,12: "And the earth brought forth grass, and herbs;" and God saw that it was good." The growing plants absorbed carbon dioxide and liberated the oxygen, fixing the carbon in the tissues of the plants, which became modified to coal later on. This reendered the air fit for animal respiration. The atmosphere must at first have been densely filled with watery vapors or clouds, extending farther into space than our atmosphere extends now; the sun's rays could not penetrate this atmosphere, except just enough to cause a perpetual twilight to prevail; but it was enough light for the growth of the plants.

Gen. I,14,15: "And God said, Let there be (u) lights in the firmament of the (v) heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be signs and for seasons, and for days and years. And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give lght upon the earth; and it was so."

5 TO 4.6 BILLION YEARS AGO: THE FORMATION OF OUR SOLAR SYSTEM AND SUN; 4.4 TO 4.2 BILLION YEARS AGO:

THE FORMATION OF OUR MOON.

Note that "heaven" is is used here in the old Greek sense- not in the Christian theological sense. The vapor had by this time condensed sufficiently to allow the sun and moon to be seen on the surface of the earth, if there had been eyes to see them. Therefore the "days" mentioned in the cosmogony were not our ordinary solar days, but periods of time. The ordinary days and years and seasons, etc., were not "created" till on the "fourth day," or fourth period, of the Genesis account. *The two great lights. They were the rulers of of day and night- regulating their length, the amount of light and darkness and the intensity of their heat and cold. Here, the lights were made (Heb. asah, to make out of already existing mateial. It is the opposite of bara, to create.) not created. They were originally created with other parts of the universe in the beginning, while now they were made to fulfill their creative purposes again, in the newly restored earth. They were already in existence in day 1, for we have merely the introduction of light and the division of day and night. Not only do have the fact that the sun existed, but also that the diurnal motion of the earth on it's axis was in operation.

Footnotes

(u) See above The 2 great lights. Heb. mawore, lightholders or luminaries (Ex. 25:6; 27:20; 35:8,14,28; 39:37; Lev. 24:2; Num. 4:9,16; Ps. 74:16: 90:8; Pr. 15:30).

(v) Heaven. Heavens, in the plural. nearly always Heb. shamayim, expanse, something spread out (Job. 37:18; Isa. 40:22; 44:24; Jer. 10:12; 51:15). It is called Heaven (v 8); clouds (Job. 26:8; Ps. 77:17; Pr. 8:28).

Gen. I,20-22: "and God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the *(w)moving creature that (x) hath life, and the (y) fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God (z) created (a) great whales and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth (b) abundantly after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind; and God saw that it was good. (c)And God blessed them, saying Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth."

800 TO 600 MILLION YEARS AGO: PORIFERA {SPONGES} AND COELENTERATES {JELLYFISHES}; 600 TO 550 MILLION YEARS AGO: THE ANNELID SUPERPHYLUM- {MOLLUSKS}, WHICH INCLUDES ANNELIDS AND ARTHROPODS {TRILOBITES}; THE ECHINODERM SUPERPHYLUM {STARFISHES}, WHICH INCLUDES ECHINODERMS AND CHORDATES; THE AGE OF AMPHIBIA (PALEOZOIC OR "OLD LIFE ERA") 550 TO 500 MILLION YEARS AGO: THE CAMBRIAN ERA- CHORDATES {VERTEBRATE AND NONVERTEBRATE LIFE}, WHICH INCLUDES AMPHIOUX, TUNICATE, AND BALANAGLOSSOS (ACORN WORMS); 500 TO 440 MILLION YEARS AGO: THE ORDOVICIAN ERA- {PLANTS REACH LAND}- OSTRACODERMS {JAWLESS FISHES SUCH AS LAMPREY EELS}; PLACODERMS-{450 MILLION YEARS AGO}- JAWED FISHES WITH {"PLATED SKIN"}; 440 TO 410 MILLION YEARS AGO: THE SILURIAN ERA- OSTEICHTHYES {"BONY FISHES"}AND THE CROSSOPTERYGIAN GROUP {"FRINGE FINNED FISHES"}, WHICH INCLUDES COELACANTHS {"HOLLOWED SPINNED FISHES"}; RHIPIDISTAN {GAVE RISE TO AMPHIBIANS}; 410 TO 360 MILLION YEARS AGO: DEVONIAN ERA- {AGE OF FISHES}- ARCOPTERYGII {"FLESH FISH"}, SUCH AS LUNGFISHES; ACTINOPTERYGII {"RAY FISHES"}; ARACHNIDS; VERTEBRATE LIFE {EOGYRINUS, THE DAWN TADPOLE}; INSECTS REACH LAND; 360 TO 285 MILLION YEARS AGO: CARBONIFEROUS ERA- COTYLOSAUR {"CUP LIZARDS"}- BECAUSE OF THEIR CUP SHAPED VERTEBRAE; EOSUCHIANS {"DAWN CROCODILES"} BECAUSE THEY WERE FIRST TO ARISE; 285 TO 225 MILLION YEARS AGO: PERMIAN ERA- LEPIDOSAURS- {"SCALY LIZARDS"}- WHICH INCLUDED SNAKES; THECODONTS {"SOCKET TEETH"}- LIZARDS; LEPIDOSAURS; PRE-MAMMALS {MAMMALIAN REPTILES} THE AGE OF REPTILES (MESOZOIC OR "MIDDLE LIFE ERA") 225 TO 190 MILLION YEARS AGO: THE TRIASSIC ERA- {ROCKS OF THREE LAYERS}- PRIMITIVE AND EARLY MAMMALS {SHREWS}; THECODONTS, OR "SCALY LIZARDS"; 190 TO 150 MILLION YEARS AGO: THE JURASSIC ERA- {FROM THE MTS. ON THE BORDER OF FRANCE AND SWITZERLAND}- DINOSAURS; CROCODILES; ARCHEOSAURS {"RULING LIZARDS"}; PTEROSAURS {"WING LIZARDS"}; 150 TO 135 MILLION YEARS AGO: MONOTHERIA; ARCHAEOPTERYX 140 MIILION YEARS AGO {"ANCIENT WING"} BIRDS; PANTOTHERIA {"ALL BEASTS"} MAMMALS, BECAUSE VIRTUALLY ALL MAMMALS MAY HAVE DESCENDED FROM THEM; 135 TO 65 MILLION YEARS AGO: BRONTOSAURS {"THUNDER LIZARDS"}; DEINOSUCHUS {"TERRIBLE CROCODILE"}; ANKYLOSAURS {"CROOKED LIZARD"}; MARSUPIALS 75 TO 80 MILLION YEARS AGO I.E., KANGAROOS; ICHTHYORNIS {"FISH BIRD"}, BECAUSE IT WAS THOUGHT TO LIVE ON FISH AND HESPERORNIS {"WESTERN BIRD"}, BECAUSE ITS FOSSILS WERE FOUND IN THE AMERICAS 70 MILLION YEARS AGO; TRICERATOPS {"THREE HORNED"}, BUILT LIKE A SUPER-RHINO; PHALANGERS, WHICH ARE MARSUPIALS THAT CAN GLIDE; 65 MILLION YEARS AGO EXTINCTION OF DINOSAURS AND LARGE REPTILES.

Here again it says that the "waters brought forth," or made (Heb. asah, to make out of already existing mateial. It is the opposite of bara, to create.), and not created- disclaiming any special creative acts of God, and justifying the theory of evolution, which is merely an effort to explain "how the earth produced." It does not conflict with the statements of the scientists that the first animal life occurred in the waters, and it endorses the rotation in which the animal organisms followed each other i.e., mollusks in the age of Age of Mollusks, fishes in the Devonian Age, plants in the Carboniferous Age, and the reptiles of the Reptilian Age, including the flying saurians, and finally the birds. The carboniferous age had completed the purification of the atmosphere, so that the earth was fit for the respiration of terrestrial life.

Footnotes

(w) Moving. Heb. sherets, swimming, creeping things (7:21; Lev. 5:2; 11:20,21,23,29,41,42,43,44; Dt. 14:19)

(x) Hath. Heb. nephesh, the "soul"- feelings, passions, desires, and appetites of any living thing.

(y) Fowl. This verse literally reads, "Let the waters swarm with swarms of livings creatures. And let fowl fly above the earth." There is no allusion to any productive power the water, or to the fowls being produced by the waters. God was the personal Creator of each (v 21; 2:19).

(z) Created. Heb. bara, not made, asah.

(a) Great whales, or sea creatures. Some whales are said to become 40x100 ft. in size with weights of 300,000. lbs.

(b) Abundantly. Heb. sharats, which means means "to swarm", the text literally saying, 'Let the waters swarm a swarm', i.e., "bring forth abundantly" 'to swarm or abound.'

(c) And. And is used 148 times in Gen. 1-2 to separate the 102 recorded independent acts of God.

Gen. I,26-28: "And God said, (d) Let us make man in (e) our image, after our own (f) likeness; So God (g) created man in his own image, in the (h) image of God he him; (i)male and female created he them. And God (j) blessed them, and God said unto them, (k) Be fruitful, and multiply, and (l) replentish the earth."

THE AGE OF MAMMALS(CENOZOIC OR "RECENT LIFE ERA") 65 TO 54 MILLION YEARS AGO: THE PALEOCENE OR ("OLD RECENT ERA")- MARSUPIALS OR KANGAROOS; PURGATORIUS {TREESHREWS}, MAY MAY HAVE BEENCLOSE TO THE EARLIEST PRIMATE; PHALANGERS; 54 TO 38 MILLION YEARS AGO: THE EOCENE ERA OR ("DAWN OF THE RECENT")- LEMURS; AEGYPTOPITHECUS {"EGYPTIAN APE"}, BECAUSE THEY WERE LOCATED IN EGYPT; TITANOTHERES {BEASTS} THE GOLDEN AGE OF LARGE MAMMALS BALUCHITHERIUM {"BEAST FROM BALUCHISTAN"}, ITS FOSSIL REMNANTS WERE FOUND IN BALUCHISTAN, WHAT IS NOW PAKISTAN; 38 TO 26 MILLION YEARS AGO: THE OLIGOCENE ERA OR ("A LITTLE OF THE RECENT")- PROCONSUL {MEMBER OF A GROUP OF SPECIES OF PRIMITIVE APES}; GENUS DRYOPITHECUS {"OAK- TREE APES"}, BECAUSE THE FOSSILS WERE FOUND ALONG WITH SOME TRACES OF ANCIENT OAK FORESTS; GENUS PLIOPITHECUS, POSSSIBLY THE ANCESTOR OF THE GIBBON APES; 26 TO 7 MILLION YEARS AGO: THE MIOCENE ERA OR ("LESS OF THE RECENT")- RAMAPITHECUS {"APE OF RAMA"}, RAMA BEING ONE OF THE IMPORTANT HINDU GODS OF INDIA, CLOSE THE BORDERLINE BETWEEN HOMINIDS AND PONGIDS {RESEMBLING APES MORE THAN THEY RESEMBLE HUMAN BEINGS.}; SIVAPITHECUS {"APE OF SIVA"}, SIVA BEING ANOTHER HINDU GOD, REMAINS SIMILAR TO RAMAPETHICUS; 7 TO 2.5 MILLION YEARS AGO: THEPLIOCENE ERA OR ("MORE OF THE RECENT")- AUSTRALOPITHECUS {"LATIN FOR SOUTHERN APE FROM AFRICA"}, CLOSER TO HUMAN BEINGS THAN THEY ARE TO APES, PROBABLY A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT SPECIES OF THESE CREATURES, DIFFERENT ENOUGH FROM OURSELVES TO HAVE A GENUS OF THEIR OWN, AND EVENTUALLY, THESE WERE CALLED AUSTRALOITHECUS ROBUSTUS, SINCE THEY HAD BONES THAT WERE THICKER AND MORE ROBUST THAN THE EARLIER SPECIMEN; 2.5 TO 10,000 YEARS AGO: THE PLEISTOCENE ERA OR ("MOST OF THE RECENT")- HOMO HABILIS {"SKILLFUL MAN"}, BECAUSE STONE TOOLS WERE FOUND NEAR THE BONY REMAINS, AND SUFFICIENTLY LIKE MODERN HUMAN BEINGS TO BE PLACED IN THE GENUS HOMO, THE GENUS BEING CONSIDERED TO BE ABOUT 1.8 MILLION YEARS OLD; HOMO ERECTUS, I.E., PEKING AND JAVA MAN, MAY HAVE COME INTO EXISTENCE 1.5 MILLLION YEARS AGO AND HAVE PERSISTED UNTIL 250,000 YEARS AGO; HOMO SAPIENS NEANDERTHALENSIS {AFTER THE REGION EAST OF DUSSELDORF GERMANY IN THE NANDER VALLEY}, CONSIDERED TO BE BELONG TO THE SAME SPECIES AS WE DO, APPEARED FIRST AS FAR BACK AS 100,000 YEARS AGO (THOUGH SOME PARTICULAR PRIMITIVE SPECIMENS HAVE BEEN REPORTED UP TO 250,000 YEARS IN AGE), BECOMING EXTINCT ABOUT 35,000 YEARS AGO, SOON AFTER MODERN MAN APPEARED; HOMO SAPIENS SAPIENS {"WISE WISE MAN"}, MODERN MAN, REFERRING TO "HUMAN BEINGS LIKE US" TODAY; THE LAST 10,000 YEARS: THE HOLOCENE ERA OR ("ENTIRELY RECENT")- THE MOST RECENT EPOCH, AND THE ONE IN WHICH WE ARE NOW LIVING, INCLUDES ALL OF CIVILIZATION, FROM THE INVENTION OF AGRICULTURE; THE STONE AGE (PRE-HISTORY), OLDEST TRACES OF FARMING AND HABITATIONS ON THE SITE OF THE BIBLICAL TOWN OF JERICHO AS LONG AGO AS 9000 B.C.- ALMOST 6,000 YEARS BEFORE WRITING WAS INVENTED ANYWHERE, SO WE CAN SAY THAT CIVILIZATION IS ABOUT 12,000 YEARS OLD.

Three very important truths are implied in this statement, and they relate to a great mystery: the nature of the Trinity, three Persons in one Godhead. First of all, we have plurality indicated by the words, "Let us make man." It has been argued by some commentators that this is merely an example of what is termed "the plural of majesty". As an alternative explanation it has been proposed that God was addressing the angelic hosts of heaven.

Footnotes

(d) Let. A Divine Trinity is required by the use of plural pronouns (Isa. 1:26; 3:22; 11:7; Ps. 2:2-4; Isa. 6:8; Jn. 14:23; 17:11,21,22.

(e) Image. Heb. tselem, shade, resemblance. It's usage proves it refers to outward form, not to atrributes (1:26-27; 5:3; 9:6; Ex. 20:4; Lev. 26:1; Ps. 73:20; 106:19; Isa. 40:19-20; 44:9-17; 45:20; 48:5; Jer. 10:14; 51:17. Cp. Rom. 1:20; 1 Cor. 11:7; Jas. 3:9).

(f) Our. Heb. demuwth, resemblance, model, shape; and refers to outward form as proved by it's usage (1:26; 5:1,3; Isa. 40:18; Ezek. 1:5,10,13,16,22,26,28; 8:2; 10:1,10,21,22).

(g) Created. Heb. bara, to create. Creation of Man. In the third creative act of God the beasts and man were brought into being (v. 24-28. Cp. 1:1,2). Their bodies were formed but their life was created. Man's creation alone was not merely accomplished by a divine fiat, but was also the subject of a divine council (v. 26-28). So (as had been decreed by divine council) God created man in His own image (v 27).

(h) Image. In the image of God- Elohim (plural). Gods. The whole structure of the sentence shows that there is unity joined with plurality. (Cp. 3:22).

(i) Male. Gen. 5:22; Mt. 19:4. All other creatures also were made male and female.

(j) Blessed. The second blessing was upon man and woman together, not upon man alone or upon other creatures. Cp. 1:22.

(k) Be. Gen. 1:22; 8:17; 9:1,7; 35:11. After the fall, to be fruitful was a special blessing and to be unfruitful was a curse.

(l) Replentish. This proves a social system before Adam, when Lucifer ruled (Cp. 9:1; Isa. 2:6; 23:2; Jer. 31:25; Ezek. 26:2; 27:25)

Gen. I,31: "And God saw Everything that he had made and behold it was good."

In Conclusion:

We see that it is a fairly correct account of what modern scirnce considers the process to have been, and it impresses us with the superiority of Moses' account of the Creation.

At all events, the account is a good and rational statement of the genesis of the earth as it is conceived by our modern science. We must bear in mind that our own "scientific" accounts of these occurrences are merely plausible theories, for we have no definite knowledge of how the earth was created. The theory of evolution which is merely an effort to explain "how the earth produced."
