After David’s Son Solomon, the Kingdom was Divided

Solomon’s Son, Rehoboam, Rules Over Judah
Jereboam Rules Over Israel
Exiled
Because of Their Unfaithfulness…
Both Kingdoms would Be Taken into Exile
Israel was Dispersed By the Assyrians
And Assyria Resettles Samaria with Other Peoples

We Need to First Look at Hebrews 10:19-25
Hebrews 10:19–25 (NASB95)
19 Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
The Hebrew Christians Were Encouraged to Draw Near to God
Jesus has Opened Up a New and Living Way into God’s Presence…

So Now We can Draw Near with:
Sincere Hearts
Full Assurance of Faith
Cleansed Consciences
Because Jesus has Provided All of this for Us…
We Should Hold On to Our Faith/Allegiance to Him
We Need to Stimulate/Prod One Another…
To Love and Serve Each Other
It’s Our Responsibility in the Assembly to Encourage Each Other Toward These Goals
And We Can’t Fulfill These Responsibilities…
If We Continue to Forsake/Abandon the Assembly
In Our Abandonment of Our Family in Christ…
Not Only Do We Hurt Our Siblings…
By Not Fulfilling Our Responsibilities to Them
We Hurt Ourselves…
By Being Disconnected From God’s Loving, Encouraging People
We Separate Ourselves From Exactly What We Need to Keep the Faith
We Need Intimate Relationship With and Encouragement From Other Believers
That Leads Us to Our Verse

Defiant Sin Refers to Sin Committed in Rebellion Against God
This is the Person Who Shakes His Fist at God and Purposefully Disobeys Him
One Commentator Described it this Way:
Willful Sin “communicates the idea of willing participation in an action, something done with a clear mind and firm step”

26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
29 How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” 31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Those Who Continue to Intentionally Sin…
No Longer Have a Sacrifice for Their Sins
But What They Do Have is a Terrifying Expectation of Judgment
Why?
Because They have Rejected Jesus
Because They Have Trampled the Son of God Under Their Feet…
And Considered His Blood as Unclean and Worthless
