How to discover your spiritual gifts
When I started to develop my gifting to teach I was really bad at it.
I remember my public speaking classes where I never got 100%
or my sermon building classes where I got a 75%
These were all markers along the road to finding my spiritual gifting to where I now say I am gifted in teaching.
It comes easy to me where for someone else it might be a little more difficult
Now we talked about what they were but now we want to talk about discovering yours
All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
The Holy Spirit has determined what your gifting is, and how we discover that is discovering who we are in Jesus.
So think back to earlier this year where we talked about how we are greated by God to be who we are and who we are reflects his character.
That same idea comes into the discovering of your Spiritual Gifts. Who God has shaped you to be tie into your spiritual giftings.
Lets play a game. I want you to guess which youth leader has this as their top 3 spiritual gifts.
How were you able to guess what the spiritual gifts were?
When you are discovering your gifts your need to first pray about it, that the Holy Spirit would make it evident to you, Jesus has said ask and it will be given and when you seek you will find. So you need to go looking for your spiritual gifts, that you have wanting and desire to find them. The Holy Spirit wants to freely give these gifts but you’ll need to have a desire to have them.
The next way is that you sense in your own life a pull towards these gifting. So lets talk about teaching cuz thats what I like to do. See I realized my gift to teach because I had a desire to do it, along with I started to learn it, see I was pulled towards that gifting as I just love it initially, that I wanted to know more and dig deeper into that gifting. It was in my DNA that I wanted to be a teacher and so I invested my time and energy into it very easy.
Another is other people see it in you, like if you parents have ever told you that you would be really good at something that you might think is lame? take soccer for example, maybe you feel like your foot work is just awful but your parents applaud it often. you might have a gifting in it, however usually you need to vet these examples, that multiple different people affirm these gifting in you. take for example this, if someone told you that you should be the prime minister of Canada. should you drop everything to accomplish that goal? Well no, however if 50 people told you that, maybe it’s something to consider.
I became a pastor because more then 1 person told me they saw it in me, it was never just one person who thought that about me but it felt like my whole local church told me that.
Along with these a helpful step that only comes second to these is a spiritual gifts test and I spent about 2 hours looking for a good one this week and so here it is:

Do not just do the test and say thats your giftings, it could be wrong but its a good play to start as you look into and reflect over those other ways of finding your gifting; so remember

Now you might be saying “Liam I do not have spiritual gift, I do not feel special, I won’t get one, etc” to which I will respond with “Well do you have the Holy Spirit in you”
The Holy Spirit gives gifts to those who He is with, so when it comes to you, you do not receive them later when you grow up, there is no small Holy Spirt that you would receive as a teen, rather you receive his whole power now.
So what do I mean you have to receive the Holy Spirit
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
When you profess Jesus as Lord you receive his Holy Spirit, however some people do not feel his pressence and so we pray a annoiting over them.
The Spirit is our daily help who assists us in every day events, like pray, or wisdom, or self control. In that is also the building of our Spirtual gifts that He gives us, so if you don’t feel the Holy Spirits pressence we want to pray for you to receive it.
This is where it all starts, that you would have the Holy Spirit then the Spiritual gifts come after, so tonight in out small groups we are going to ask you, “do you feel like you have the Holy Spirit with you?” even before we talk about Spiritual gifts.
Who do you think has cool role in our Church? Why? (This shows the DNA/heart pull towards giftings)
Do you feel like you have the Holy Spirit with you? (If yes, what makes you feel that way - If no, “can we pray for you to receive the Holy Spirit?”)
Have you ever prayed about your Spiritual gifts? What happened?
Do you feel a pull towards a specific Spiritual Gift, Which one?
Have you had people affirm a gift in you already? Which one, what happened?
