Finding Inner Peace When Making Decisions

  • Begin by being neutral - willing for the matter to fall either way.  Ask God to reveal whether you are neutral.  If not, continue to pray that God’s desires will be your desires.  Phil. 2:13

  • Pray specifically and definitely about it in faith.  Ja. 1:5-7

  • Listen for God to speak to you through His Word.  If you have been in the Word and have no guidance from it, continue in the Word, but wait.  Ps. 37:23

  • Do you have all the available facts?  If not, take action to get the facts.  Prov. 24:3-4

  • Make a list of the advantages and disadvantages about the issue.

  • What does common sense tell you to do?

  • What do you want to do?  Why do you want to do it?  Prov. 21:2

  • Will it benefit you or your marriage (family) spiritually, physically, emotionally, mentally, socially?       1 Cor. 6:12

  • Will it be a thorn causing anxious thoughts?  Mk. 4:19

  • Will it cause another to stumble?  1 Cor. 10:23    Will it glorify God?  1 Cor. 10:31

  • Have you asked counsel from spiritually mature people?  If so, record what they said and pray for confirmation from the Lord about what they said.              Prov. 15:22

  • Does it violate any known scriptural principle?

  • Be willing to wait in faith for God to line up His Word, your peace, and the circumstances.  Heb 10:36

  • Take into account providential circumstances.  These often indicate God’s will in connection with His Word and Spirit.  Acts 21:7-14; Rom. 9:18-24

  • Do you have inner conviction or peace about a course of action?  If so, proceed with conviction.      Rom. 14:23

  • Act in faith, believing God wants you to do it and is with you in the process.  Heb. 11:6
