THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER (HAVING THE RIGHT MINDSET)

THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER (Matthew 13:4-9 / Mark 4:1-9 / Luke 8:4-8)
(Mark 4:2-9 “2 Then He taught them many things by parables, and said to them in His teaching: 3 “Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds of the air came and devoured it. 5 Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away. 7 And some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. 8 But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.” 9 And He said to them, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!””
REFLEXION : /// Who is the sower (Mark 4:14) ? The one who sows the Word. /// Pay attention to the expression “Some seed fell...” It does not say “Some seed were inserted into, or put on” - The sower does not sow differently /// What is the attitude of the sower in regard to where the seed goes? He does not discriminate /// Who is responsible for the seed to grow? Is it the sower? /// What is the end result for the seed that fell on good ground?
(Mark 4:15-20 “15 And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. 16 These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble. 18 Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, 19 and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 20 But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.””
APPLICATION : Do not look a people’s appearance while preaching the Gospel. /// We are not responsible for the end result: The Holy Spirit is the one responsible ///
THE SOWER SOWS THE WORD (Mark 4:14) - AND THE WORD IS THE PERSON OF JESUS-CHRIST, AND THE WORD IS SPIRIT AND LIFE: (John 1:1-13 “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” )
IMPORTANT TO KEEP THIS IN MIND : (John 12:32 32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”” )

THE EVANGELIST IS AN OPPORTUNIST (HAVING THE RIGHT MINDSET)

PLANNED AND UNPLANNED EVENTS - DAY OF JOY - DAY OF ADVERSITY - DAY OF MOURNING
(Acts 2:12-14 “12 So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?” 13 Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.” 14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words.”
Acts 3:11-12 “11 Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon’s, greatly amazed. 12 So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: “Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?”
2 Tim 4:1-4 “1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
LOOK AT THE DAY OF ADVERSITY AND AFFLICTION AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO LIFT UP JESUS
Ecclesiastes 7:1-4 “1 A good name is better than precious ointment, And the day of death than the day of one’s birth; 2 Better to go to the house of mourning Than to go to the house of feasting, For that is the end of all men; And the living will take it to heart. 3 Sorrow is better than laughter, For by a sad countenance the heart is made better. 4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, But the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.”
Ecclesiastes 7:14 “14 In the day of prosperity be joyful, But in the day of adversity consider: Surely God has appointed the one as well as the other, So that man can find out nothing that will come after him.”

THE THEOLOGY OF EVANGELISM: Kerygma - Keruso

1. « THE GOOD NEWS » IS GOOD ONLY WHEN IT IS PREACHED.
Romans 10:13-15 “13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” 14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!””
2. THE KERYGMATIC SERMONS
Exemples TO FOLLOW: Acts 2:14-40 / Acts 3:12-16 / Acts 4:8-12 / Acts 5:29-32 / Acts 10:34-43 / Acts 13:16-41
Exemples NOT TO FOLLOW completely : Acts 14:15-17 / Acts 17:22-31 (Why?)
Kerygma: It’s the apostolic proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The ardent proclamation by which a person is one day overwhelmed to entrust his life to Jesus.

KEY POINTS WHEN YOU SHARE THE GOSPEL

1. All have sinned and our sins separates us from God - There is none righteous, no, not one (Romans 3:10, 23; Psalms 49:8-9)
Rom 3:23 “23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
Rom 3:10 “10 As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;”
Ps 49:8-9 “7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him— 8 For the redemption of their souls is costly, And it shall cease forever—”
Rom. 3:4 “Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, And may overcome when You are judged.””
Rev 21:8 “8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.””
There is no small sin. Even one lie is enough to send someone to hell.
The wages of sin is death - Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin (Romans 6:23; Heb 9:22, 27 )
Rom 6:23 “23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Heb 9:27 “27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,”
Heb 9:22 “22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.”
2. For God so loved the world that He gave Jesus - Jesus paid the debt for our sins (John 3:16; Romans 5:8; 1 Peter 2:24; 3:18)
John 3:16 “16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Rom 5:8 “8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
1 Pet 2:24 “24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.”
1 Pet 3:18 “18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,”
3. Jesus died, was buried, and resurrected the 3rd day (1 Cor 15:1-4 ; 12-21)
1 Cor 15:1-4 “1 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,
1 Corinthians 15:12–21 (NKJV)
12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.
20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.
4. Jesus is the only Way to God there is no other way (John 14:6 ; Acts 4:12 ; Mark 16:16 ; Romans 10:1-4)
John 14:6 “6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Act 4:12 “12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.””
Mark 16:16 “16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”
5. Repent and Call upon the Name of the Lord (Romans 10:9 , 13; John 3:16 , 36)
Repent and Call on the Name (Jean-Baptiste, Jésus, Envoi des douze, Pierre
Jesus preached the same message : Mat 4:12 “12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee.” ===> Mat 4:17 “17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.””
Pierre : Act 2:37-38 “37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
6. INVITATION TO RECEIVE JESUS
Dear God, Thank you for loving me. I confess that I have sinned against you. I believe that your Son, Jesus, died on a cross to pray for my sin and that You raised Him from the dead. I trust Jesus alone to forgive me and take away all my sins. I confess that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. Than you for Your gift of eternal life! I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

=> Before Jesus / When Jesus intervened / After Jesus intervened => He can and wants to do it for you too.

KEEP IN MIND & RECOMMANDATIONS

1. SHARE JESUS WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES - The first disciples of Jesus came from relatives
Mat. 19:14 “14 But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.””
John 1:35-50 “35 Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. 36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38 Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), “where are You staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour). 40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, “You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas” (which is translated, A Stone). 43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.” 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!” 48 Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” 50 Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.””
2. PREACH THE REAL GOSPEL
Gal 1:8-9 “8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.”
3. AVOID THE TRAP OF TRYING TO BE WISE BEFORE PEOPLE - The message of the Gospel is foolishness for the world
1 Cor 1:18–25 “18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” 20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”
4. MY SHEEP HEAR MY VOICE - SHOW LOVE WHILE PREACHING THE GOOD NEWS
BE ATTENTIVE : John 10:27 “27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
MY SHEEP HEAR MY VOICE ... We cannot force people to believe the Gospel. We share it and God does His work. You will always find people who will try to challenge you for the sake of challenging you.
5. PRAY AND CO-LABOR WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT - Before - During - After - PRAY FOR PEOPLE TO EXPERIENCE THE PRESENCE OF GOD
BEFORE GOING : Ask God to lead you. Pray that people’s heart would be opened to receive the Gospel. Pray for divine appointments. Pray in the spirit. /// WHILE SHARING THE GOSPEL: Pray in your heart. Be attentive and listen to what might show you. Be relaxed. /// AFTER : Let God teach you from your experience. Practice makes it perfect.
Convince - Exhort: 2 Tim 4:1-4 “I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”
6. PRAY FOR PEOPLE - PRAY FOR THE SICK - TAKE AUTHORITY
PRAY FOR PEOPLE TO EXPERIENCE JESUS - HIS HEALING, DELIVERANCE : Priez afin qu’ils expérimentent et ressentent la Présence tangible de Jésus. /// Priez pour la guérison des malades et pour voir des miracles : Rom 15:19 “in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.” - 1 Thes 1:5 “For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.”
7. TAKE INITIATIVES - BE AN OPPORTUNIST
Mat. 4:19 “Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”” ==> No fisherman fishes from his couch at home.
8. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF YOUR PERSONAL TESTIMONY
Rev 12:11 “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.”
9. SOME IDEAS ON HOW TO PROCEED - ADAPT YOUR MESSAGE TO YOUR AUDIENCE - ALWAYS BRING THE DISCUSSION BACK TO JESUS
JESUS AND NICODEMUS (The New Birth) => John 3:5-7 “Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’” /// Rom 8:14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
JESUS AND THE SAMARITAN WOMAN (Something that is of interest to the person) => John 4:7A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.”” /// John 4:10 “Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”” /// John 4:13-14 “Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.””
Jesus is the Healer / God is the comforter // WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE - Col 2:2-3 “that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” / He is the resurrection /// HE OPENS AND SHUTS DOORS - Rev 3:7 ““And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, ‘These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”:”
Always bring the discussion back to Jesus : John 12:32 “And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.””
10. DO NOT FORGET TO GIVE THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE JESUS
Ask questions like: Would you like to receive Jesus now? Do you want to turn away from sin and give your life to Jesus? Do you want Him to forgive you now? Would you like to be reconciled with God? What prevents you to give your life to Jesus now? If you would die now, would you like to spend eternity in the Presence of God?
