What is Righteousness:
An Attribute Everyone Needs to Enter Heaven

Faith + Obedience + Holy Spirit = Righteousness

Question #1: Can someone fully achieve righteousness on their own?

Romans 3:10 ESV
as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one;

Only Christ Has This Righteousness

2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
1 Peter 2:24 ESV
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Romans 4:5 ESV
And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness,
Romans 5:17 ESV
For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
Those who do not obey are of Adams seed. Need to be born again
Why - Because he perfectly obeyed the law
If you’re perfect then you’re good to go

Question #2: How does the righteousness equation relate to the concept of grace and forgiveness?

Ephesians 2:8–9 ESV
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
What is not part of being Righteous?
Sincere effort
Being a “good” person

Faith = Belief + Trust + Obedience

Hebrews 11:6 ESV
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
John 8:24 ESV
I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins.”

Righteousness Equation must have Obedience to God's Commands

1 John 3:7 ESV
Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous.

Question #3: In what ways does the righteousness equation impact our daily lives and interactions with others?

Philippians 1:9–11 ESV
And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Question #4: How can we overcome feelings of unworthiness or inadequacy in light of the righteousness equation?

1 Corinthians 1:30–31 ESV
And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
