ADVICE DAD NEVER GAVE YOU

Ralph Sorter

The other day a thought struck me like a 2 x 4 between the eyes.  It was one of those things that you should realize all along, but it became new to me at that moment, and it has the potential to revolutionize how I will guide other marriages.  The thought?  Each of us already possesses all we need to love others the way God wants to love them!

How so?  God is love.  God is in us.  Therefore we have potential access to all His power and love so that we can pass it on to others.  All we need to do is get out of the way and let Him love through us.

We can choose to bury this ability and live in reaction to others, or we can choose to act from the higher resource of love.  We can choose to disconnect from the spiritual resource and mess things up, or respond to this incredible calling to love others like He would.

Many of us desire deeper relationships with others, be we resist change.  That resistance keeps us from the love we want.  We work hard for approval, but when disappointed, we reject others and the love we could be sharing between us.

It’s time to approach the front porch swing with a different attitude.  Our lives are too precious to sit around hoping that love will happen…too valuable to hold back…too short to hold on to blame and resentment.  Why wait when you have the capacity within you to move towards love now?  Now is the time to choose love and make a difference in someone’s life.

Using power and influence doesn’t produce lasting change.  Love does!  Whatever you have held onto that has been your stumbling block needs to go.  Let it go and accept the invitation to tap the source of love that resides within you.  We can spend all our energy trying to change other people, blaming them for our brokenness…or we can have the courage to love those around us.  We can stay the same, wait for something painful to motivate us to change, or we can choose healing and a more intimate love for others.  Love is a choice…it won’t grow on it’s own!
