ADVICE DAD NEVER GAVE YOU

Ralph Sorter

Definition – Champion: a militant defender.  This definition has its roots out of the days of King Arthur when knights would defend the life and character of their king and queen.  To champion a cause meant to defend it with your life.  The greater the sacrifice, the greater the knight was esteemed in the eyes of the royal couple.  Jousting contests were held to sharpen their skills and see who was the greater champion, the head knight.  Similarly the Greeks placed a wreath on the head of champions of Olympic winners.  Today we place a gold metal on their neck.

Men, there is a contest going on every day for the souls of your family!  You are needed to champion the character development of your queen and your princes and princesses!  You see, there is a very real enemy striving to hold you back from being all that you can be as a spiritual champion in your home.  He will distract you with a busy schedule, commitments to others, exhaustion when you get home, and laziness in the area of spiritual mentoring of your family.  Guys, in this battle everyone can be a champion!

But just because there is someone trying to hold you back, there is Someone else who is committed to see you succeed in the home.  He’s the One who inspired the words, “But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.”  (Rom. 8:37)  Did you see it?  He has promised that you can be more than a conqueror!  What’s more than a conqueror?  A beloved champion in the hearts of your family!

Every champion in the Olympics has a vision of some previous winner from whom they get inspiration.  I purpose we need a vision of Jesus as our model of a champion’s heart.  Go for it champion!  Your family’s watching to see if that vision of Jesus is going to last more than a week!
