ADVICE DAD NEVER GAVE YOU

   It was early in the morning, the car was packed and I was sitting in the driveway with the engine running, and anxious to get on the road for our vacation.  We had our prayer for safe travels, but Gloria ran back into the house and said she would be right back.  I waited and waited.  No wife…can’t leave…so I ran back in the house to see what was holding her up.  She said, “I can’t leave until I find my glasses.  Help me look for them.”  I said, “Are you blind?!  They’re sitting on top of your head!”  Being blind to what’s right in front of you is a real handicap.  The cure?  A physician can adjust your glasses for your eyes, but if you aren’t using them, slowing down and calmly looking goes a long ways.

   My son was helping me cut some plywood with a circular saw, and he was running the saw.  We were without a 2nd sawhorse so I was holding the other end.  Part way through the cut he brought his knee up to support the drooping half of plywood.  I yelled, “Stop! If the saw binds up it’s going to rear back and it will cut right through your leg!”  When operating a saw, not using your head can make you a handicap.   The cure?  A physician can sew up your leg, but you can avoid stitches by thinking through what you are doing.

   But there’s something worse than these two scenarios:  For the blind in mind there is no physician.  This is what I call a fool.  Such a person has a stubborn will set on doing things their own way no matter how strong the warning you give them.  They are determined to do it no matter what the consequences are or whom they hurt along the way.  All the advanced warning is like water on the back of a duck.  Those are people you want to stay away from, for the payment for such actions is bound to be pain…and there is no physician that can change the one who’s mind is blind.
