ADVICE DAD NEVER GAVE YOU

Ralph Sorter

Look across the audience.  Look at many of the glowing faces.  They are from our ladies who have brought into this world their children who are honoring them today.  It’s the glow of motherhood.  It’s the glow of happiness because their son or daughter has expressed love, thanksgiving, and honor this day.

They are holding their head high this day.  They are dressed to a tee with spring fashion.  Rightly so.

But dignity and beauty does not consist in a silk dress.  These ladies have a glow that goes deeper than a thread of fabric.  They have poured their love and their life into those they brought into this world.  They have created bonds unlike any other on earth.  Those bonds were created by the gentle, soothing voice that came to their cry in the middle of the night.  Bonds from applying love along with medicine to the scraped knee…rocking them back to sleep after a bad dream…bonds from being there to watch their play, their game, their performance…and telling them they did a fantastic job even if they failed.  Yes, this dignity runs deep.

This beauty never tarnishes.  Without a doubt, no miracle cream can stem away the eventual wrinkles forever.  The gray can be covered, the bulges can be hidden, but the beauty never tarnishes.  You see, as we grow older, the beauty steals inward.  The long nights of staying up late…the untold hours of worry over their children has etched it’s mark outwardly…but your inner beauty glows more lovely because of your deeds of kindness and love.  This is your day…Mother’s Day.  The day your children acknowledge you are the greatest Mom in the world…and they would have it no other way.

Blessings and peace to every one of you this day, Mothers.  We honor you for your beauty that is ever growing.
