Intro

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Psalm 22:1).
Some of the most famous…and important words ever spoken in human history.
They were some of Christ’s last words on the cross (Mt. 27:46, Mark 15:24).
As He hung there, bleeding and dying, in the moment of His greatest suffering, He quoted them from Psalm 22.
Christs words on the cross. His greatest suffering. But in those words are the hope of our faith. The hope of our salvation. That Christ was forsaken that we might be saved. Quoting on the cross this psalm was in Jesus mind mediating on it. Fulfilling it. Psalm 22 is a messianic psalm proclaiming our salvation in the suffering of death in Jesus Christ.
How it outlines?
At the same time the anguish of our lord and the hope of our salvation …the hope of Easter.
Psalm 22 on Jesus heart crucifixion psalm but also a victory psalm that celebrates Christs resurrection. What was Jesus hoping in in his last hours on the cross. Psalm 22 tells us.

Jesus suffered the wrath of God on the cross to save us from our sins/bring salvation to the nations.
Hebrews 2:16 “For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham.”

27-31 God’s power to save (all nations. All generations. All people great and small)
