Intro

What do we need to know?
In the first Book: Lukes Gospel (This was originally one volume) V 1
Luke Wrote Acts.
Acts 1:1 ESV
In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach,

Purpose of the book of Acts?

Acts 1:8 ESV
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Jerusalem 2-7, Judea 8-12, 13 the ends of earth
What is our angle: “Sent: How Jesus built his church.”
Jesus builds his church… through the Believers.. Empowered by the HS.
(Those who have the HS are those who witness for Jesus)
Lukes Gospel we see this (John the Baptist, Zachariah, Simeon)

Big Idea: You are a witness for Jesus.

Setup:

I want you to picture yourself in a court room
you are called to the stand… as a witness for Jesus.
What did you see?
What authority do you have to speak on this matter?
Transition: In these first 11 verses Jesus establishes the role of his followers as witnesses to what he has done, and he task them to tell others, but before we can even try tell others we have to understand what we have seen....
This is the goal of this morning. Lets work backwards from our role as witnesses to better move forward in the witnessing life Jesus has called us too.
Pray....

What did you see?

Luke 24:44–47 ESV
Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
Jesus:
Everything written about the Messiah in the OT is about Jesus
Jesus suffered, died, Buried, and rose from the dead
Your Mind has now been opened to see this “veil removed”
Why does it matter?
3. Forgiveness of sins is offered...
4. Go Tell everyone

What is your authority to speak on behalf of Jesus?

Acts 1:6–11 ESV
So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
The HS has come upon you...
Authority
Power
Compells, Convicts, Calls
So no need to keep looking in the clouds… its time to move and tell others about this.

Closing:

This was a Gods plan....
Witness to the work of Jesus and go tell others until Jesus comes back.
Empowered witness… so impacted by what we have seen, experienced, and heard that we cant help but tell others about it…
One day Jesus will return and we will be with him, and them.... forever in eternity but until then we live as a sent people lets pray!
Small Group Questions:
What does it mean to be a witness for Jesus?
How did you come to faith? (think people who discipled you)
What is the Holy Spirits role in your witness?
How can we encourage one another in being a witness for Jesus?
