A Father’s Legacy

When David’s time to die drew near, he charged his son Solomon… 1 Kings 2:1

“Synonyms: heritage, legacy, tradition: These nouns denote something immaterial, such as a custom, that is passed from one generation to another: a heritage of moral uprightness; a legacy of philosophical thought; the tradition of noblesse oblige.” American Heritage Dictionary

I Build A Legacy for My Children When:

·         I am [HONEST] About Myself:

1…saying: 2a “I am about to go the way of all the earth Verses 2:1-2a

15O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. 16For you have no delight in sacrifice; if I were to give a burnt offering, you would not be pleased. 17The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Psalms 51: 15-17

·         I Train Them to Have [STRONG VALUES]:

 1…saying:2b…Be strong Verses 1-2b

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Ephesians 6:10-13

·         I Show Them How To Be [A COURAGEOUS MAN]:

1…saying: …2cShow yourself a man. Verses 1-2c

Paul’s Definition of Courageous Maturity: 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, lives in you. 6 For this reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands; 7 for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:5-7

·         I Live By the [BIBLE]:

1…saying: …2…3 And keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his ordinances, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn. Verse 3

6 I have applied all this to Apollos and myself for your benefit, brothers and sisters, so that you may learn through us the meaning of the saying, “Nothing beyond what is written,” so that none of you will be puffed up in favor of one against another. 7 For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you received it, why do you boast as if it were not a gift?

1 Corinthians 4:6-7
